I have a Trumpeter H39 kit whose instructions fail to depict what colors to paint the interior. What color interiors do French tanks have? American and Soviet tanks came in white, British tanks in aluminum during the early part of WW2, white for the rest of the war, then back to aluminum afterward, and German tanks in ivory. Also, would French tanks incorporated into the German military necessarily have had their interiors repainted to German colors? Thanks.

Mainly white probably in French service. I can't think of any WW2-era colour photos of the interiors of French tanks, so all we have to go on are B/W shots. There are plenty of these on Chars Francais, and they all show a generally pale coloured interior, with some of the fittings and parts of the drive train in different colours.

There are colour photos of the interior of Saumur's preserved H-39 here

H-39

Of course anything may have happened to the interior since 1940 and there are what look like some recent additions (some of the interior shots are of the R-35 too which doesn't help). Check the R-35 and S-35 pages on the same site for more period interior shots, including the APX-R turret on the R-35 page.

The Germans would have got around to repainting the interior at some point too.
