Here is my update as many of you have inquired about. I didn't actually get to work on it (school first and all that blah blah), but here some some photos anyway


The turret, roof, hood (not seen here), and chassis are in separate pieces


Ciro, here is a good shot of the front of the turret that you asked for.


Here is the ProArt SINCGARS (a great little kit that is highly recommended). The cord is a tiny wire that I coil on a strip of styrene rod and then stretch as necessary. On a whim, I added a Blue Force Tracker (the screen). My question: is there additional equipment like a separate computer tower (or is it included into the monitor?), or do I need an additional antenna somewhere (if so: where?).





I hope to actually work on it over Christmas break, so expect an update in a few weeks.

Looking good so far Jeff. Nice work on the SINCGARS. You have more patience then me! LOL I am cool with the handset cables, but wiring up the rest of that thing drove me so nuts, i actually gave up for once in my life LOL Are you painting it sand or three color nato?

The only problem I had with the SINCGARS is in test fitting all the parts. You just reach a point where you say "screw it" and just go for it.

Whoa...man Jeff this is turning out awesome....love it. Like the interior coloring and what you did with the radio and it's set up. Two quick questions, 1) will it be painted in sand, sand/camo or in camo 2) is it based on a real HUMVEE, which unit. Great Job and looking forward to seeing more photos.

Thanks Joe. I intend on painting it in sand as this will be one of my first airbrushed models. Nothing any more complicated than it already is. I don't have any vehicle specific decals and a lot of the photos I have do not have unit markings on them at all so markings will be fairly plain.

I'm also debating making the add on door armor that is starting to show up on a lot of the M1114s.

Jeff, as to your question about the BFT, yes there was a GPS box that was located, at least on our vehicles, on the rear slope of the vehicle. I cant remember what side it was on but gimme a day or so and I'll see if I cant dig up some pics for ya.

HI Pete,

those are some great hummer referance pictures you have there. If you dont mind my asking, I have a couple of questions about them.

1) in the first picture, is that soldier on the left wearing the old ALICE gear??? I didnt think that was still used or issued?

2) on the second to last picture, I noticed the seats of that hummer were covered in plastic. Is this thing brand new and no one has removed the plastic off the seats yet, or is there some reason for the plastic covers.

I also noticed from those pictures that the interior color is more of a dark green (like model master dark green) rather then NATO green. As stated before, these are some very good pictures for referance. Thanks in Advance Pete, you are the definitive Humvee master! We're not worthy! LOL :-)

Not a MASTER Gary, just have good access to the real thing from time to time. But those where Zach's pictures he sent me when he got back from Iraq. He can tell you more about them. As for my unit, we have a mixture of LBE's and LBV's. Besides, Zach's unit is a NAtional Guard unit aslo, we get a mixture of new and old stuff.

As for the color, I would say Meduim Green. It looks dark becasue of the lighting and its new. But it is the same Green CARC paint that the outside is painted if it was 3 color camo.

Oh, and yea, Zach said it was a new Hummer, thats why it still had the plastic covers, TO PRESERVE THAT NEW CAR SMELL!!!!!!! :-) :-) :-)

:-) :-) :-) I would think he would prefer the smell of gun powder! LOL BUt hey, if he really likes the smell, tell him to PM me. They make new car smell air freshener now too, I'll gladly send him some LOL I had a couple of the Air National Guards Humvees at my shop for transmissions, but they were outfitted completely differant then the Army / Marine Humvees Ive seen. They were just standard Nato green inside and out. I work on the 177th Air Nat'l Guards vehicles from Pomona NJ. I am actually getting so nit picky about these kit hummers I am building, I was actually disappointed to see Tamiya and Academy put the wrong transmission on their kit :-) I was thinking last night, "Hmmm....I wonder if I can scratch build a 4L80E to replace the TH400" LOL I really have to start building my AIM next. One more Humvee and I think I will lose my mind LOL Thanks for the info, and if you ever need any transmission technical help on one of your Hummers, drop me a line.

Yeah, that guy is wearing an LBV. It is really just a web gear to hold equipment like canteens, your pistol, and ammo pouches for when you aren't using an IBA. At my ROTC Bn (far from being an Active unit), we are issued LBEs (easily recognizable with the single strap in the back instead of two like the LBVs), and a Kevlar helmet and thats what we use for training.

For the seats, for the interior, I used Tamiya's NATO Green and mixed in a tiny amount of white to fade it out. For the seats, again I used the NATO Green, with more white to simulate faded use and the fact that that a fabric color looks different than solid color on metal. I touched up parts that I missed with much less white added, so it looks like the seats have been patched. (really a screw up on my part, but hey who cares? it works)

Zach, I forgot all about your pictures that I have. My question is how often are the CIP panels used?

And as for the new car air fresheners: is there an NSN for that? :-)

Not often. CIPs were not really common on vehicles in the regiment but thats to say they werent there. On other units yeah we would see em but like I said not often.

Dunno about an NSN for the air fresheners but the might be a FM-something for em!(Pete!?)

EDIT:Oh and the guy with the LBV was our LT. Think of Napoleon when you look at the picture lol.
