Dear Marc
I recomend you to apply a coat with TAMIYA light grey (flat) like a good base to start working with VALLEJO acrylics.
Its work very well.
The Vallejo doesn't stick in a resin surface, but the Tamiya paints is very good for this purpouse.
Is cheaper than TAMIYA primer, and easy to use. Apply with airbrush, of course.
I hope it helps

Hi Marc,
You can also use Humbrol flat enamel, any color you find comfortable to work with, I use flat black as a primer.
Cheers
Greg

Ohhhh I am really shocked with your two replies guys.
Is the first time that I see someone using a DARK primer to paint with vallejo. I trhought that is easier to apply the colors over light surfeces, because it give more light and life to the colors, but..why black???
It is really new for me. Can you share your method, please???
I agree...citadel primers is one of the best of the market, but also CITADEL Paints.
I amde a chemical and phisical analisis long time ago for a Paint Manufacture, and the citadel was the best one in the market!!
All the best

Hi Mig,
For me the black primer came from painting wargame figures, when the highlighting is done starting from the darkest colour and in the deepest crannies it can even be left black. So on the black primer I lay base colour, say ultramarines blue and I highlight it gradually with white. Also for armour model if you omit some dark place , say on the undercarriage and realise it later you can leave it as a dark shade, isn't as noticeable as with light coloured primer.
Cheers

Mig, regarding figures, and using entirely Vallejo, i've been undercoating in black, drybrushing in white and applying a series of very thinned washes to build up the solid color (not my technique, Calvin Tan's )
With armor, I find that the black is giving me a far nicer density of initial color and also (using both Vallejo and Tamiya acrylics) giving a better surface to apply color. It seems to 'grip' better.
The reason I like Citadel so much is simple - the pigment seems a lot finer than others...
