Another debated issue. Some say it was involved in the final days of WW2, others say they only were there for the final parade into Berlin. Images of this version are scarce as it was basically thestart of the cold war after this!

Peter- The JS-3 missed WW2 by a month, yet were in the Berlin Victory Parade in 1945. The only real action the JS-3 saw was in the Mid-East. In the mid to late 60,s many were "dug-in" along the Russo/ Sino border when things got hot between Russia and China. There really aren,t alot of photos out there of the JS-3.

Everything you could want to know about Russian AFVs in WW2 is in this site and here is a good page dedicated to the JS 3, which was never used in combat with the Whermacht.

I have just received a JS3 kit myself so have been doing a bit of net research

Outstanding!, Thanks for all the responses. It looks as though Tamiyas offering is based on an early model, and I think I'll make mine a later version, now how to make those headlight guards!, better learn to solder.
Thanks again

There is no evidence whatsoever that the JSIII ever saw combat at the end of WWII - neither in Europe nor in Manchuria. The vehicles which were seen at the Victory parade in Berin in 1945, were actually put there as a deliberate attempt to 'intimidate' the Western powers.
@Peter, yes, the Tamiya kit, is actually the Early variant, the Trumpeter kit being the later variant. Of the two, the Tamiya one is, IMO, the better model, the Trumpeter one suffering from some fairly 'clunky' detail. There should be an Eduard update set for both kits...

Thanks for the info Jim, I've got the Royal model upgrade, but it's very simple. I think I'll be doing a bit of scratching on this one.

Peter,
Be careful whenn using pics of the Aberdeen IS-3. When it arrived at APG, it was pretty chopped up (the Isrealis cut chunks of the armor out for testing) and the engine deck is totally incorrect (it's from a T-55). I don't know of too many web pics of this beast, but the Concord book on Russian heavy tanks is good and Steve Z.'s Ordinance Special on the IS-3 is useful. Be advised that the IS tanks underwent two massive rebuilding programs as there were numerous engineering problems with the vehicle. The APG IS-3 is actually an IS-3M and IIRC has all of the upgrades. HTH.
Regards,
Georg

They were deployed in Budapest, in '56.
