If the EAPU is not fitted in the turret bustle, what goes over the opening in the mesh lining the floor of the bustle?

If the EAPU was never installed, the expanded metal mesh runs from end to end. The mesh is cut partially off and replaced with sheet metal during the EAPU installation.
