Well here we go again #:-)
Finally my dummy dio is starting to work out so I am "dreaming" of my next or one of the next dio's I would like to make.
I loved the dio campaign and was sorry that I could not participate, but the idea of a dio with a sniper theme was very appealing.
I was thinking of making a shadowbox diorama but with a twist.
Instead of using a window as a viewing port I was thinking of using a sniper scope for this.
When you look thru the (simulated) scope you would see a (Verlinden) paratrooper in a urban street giving directions to a fellow soldier (just visible in the scope), the crosshair of the sniper would be aiming at his chest.
this is a quick drawing of the viewing angle
What do you think?? would it work??
Has anybody any idea what a German sniper scope looks like from the inside?

Way to cool. Nice Idea!
If you want a second twist put an optic maginifier in the scope and do the dio in 1/72 and have it 'grow' from looking through the scope.
Keep us posted. Very original.

I have a book at home called (I think) German Sniper: !914-1945. It details all of this information. If you're interested, I can look it up and post what I find.

If I was to do that idea, I would:
Have the intended victim behind a cover just barely to be seen( and shot) occupied with trying to fool the sniper with a helmet on a stick.

I made a few mock ups and I am inclined to do a scene according to the Private Ryan screenshot
This is the story:
The title for this dio would be: “Ending the game”
A wet day on the European front, the German sniper has concealed itself in a building overlooking the main street, alone and waiting ….
Suddenly he spots movement in the streets and he looks thru his scope, was he mistaken?? No there it is again, a enemy soldier walking carefully thru the partially destroyed street, and the he spots a second soldier behind him ….. yes they are in range.
He wets his lips and, again, trying to calm his nerves knowing that he will soon ad another mark to his rifle.
He aims ……….. holds his breath …….. and …… fires!
Hit, the soldier went down …. Did they spot me? No it seems not. Damn the other soldier is out of view, where is my kill? There he is. Still moving …. Blood gushing out of his side, he sees him calling to his comrade in agony.
The sniper sees the comrades arm thru the rubble, trying to reach the fallen GI, he looks back ad his victim, who is trying to move, full of pain and fear.
He makes a decision, slowly he points his rifle at the soldier, looking thru the scope, slowly aiming …. Moving the crosshair from his back towards the back of his head …………. Ready to end the game!
