Can anyone recommend good books on WW II German tanker uniforms (both Heer and SS). What I am interested in is what styles of unifroms they wore and the coloring of those uniforms through out the war. I'm trying to get more informed on this area so when I place figures with my models, I use the appropriate ones.

Osprey has series of inexpensive books on military uniforms with a dozen or so color plates in the center section. Should be more than enough reference for armor kit figures.

Hi Craig,

These might give you a good start:-

Osprey Modelling Panzer Crewman of the Heer
Osprey Panzer Crewmen 1939/45
Osprey Modelling Waffen SS figures

These are excellent and filled with detail. I have added the SS figures one as it gives excellent details as to painting the various patterns that SS personnel wore.

They are not expensive as books go, and the ones entitled 'modelling' give many step by step features and which paint colours to use in a variety of types.

Army Panzer Uniforms in Colour Photographs
Wade Krawczyk
Europa Militaria Special #13 ISBN:1-86126-303-1
Illustrates all type of head gear and various types of tank uniforms.

German Soldiers of World War Two
Jean de Lagarde
Histoire & Collections ISBN: 2-915239-35-5
This book shows various types of German arm forces uniforms but also show a good selection of panzer, artillary, reconn and motorize uniforms from Heer, SS and Luftwaffe units. Panzer camos are also shown. All pictures are in color and modeled.
Good luck,
Henry

I highly recommend the Osprey series. They are fairly inexpensive and contain enough data to do a good job. I am going to try a mix someone told me about using Humbrol #30 and # 86. Let you know the results.
