Here she is…my finished entry to the HUMVEE campaign. It started out as an old Tamiya kit, my first one. I made it into a DUMVEE hummer, all add on parts were scratchbuilt using Evergreen plastic card and rods, except for the front seats. It was painted in Model Masters sand, cleared coated followed by a raw umber oil wash, and once dried it was giving a dull coat. The gear is from Tamiya’s modern set while the laptop is scratchbuilt. I was going to weather it further with powders but the longer I looked at it I decided not to. I like it’s look and color, heck not bad for my third hummer. Now if I can get to learning figure painting, this would look even better with a few on. The sand on the base is real sand from Iraq that I got from my nephew back in 2004. Comments welcomed.

Great job Joe! I really like the sand from Iraq. It just makes it that much more special. I agree with the way you left it, w/o powders. It looks perfect the way it is.

Looks fantastic! Great work on all of that scratchbuilding. And good decision on the weathering, as well.

Very nice model. I like the looks of the conversion.
My nephew was also in Iraq a couple years ago, with the 1st, he took a bunch of pics of his units home made uparmored Humvee's. I'll have to dig them out now, and see about doing one myself!

I applaud this fine scratchbuilding effort. Very well done with all the extras. A few of the dimensions may be off (the back slats should be thicker/higher, the rear shelf should only be about was wide as a gas can, the smoke launchers look a bit small), but the detail itself is quite well-done. I also agree about the Stoner, and, to a lesser degree, the SAW. The Stoner hasn't been used in decades, and even the SAW with that style stock is all but extinct from frontline service. Better to mount some GPMGs in those 2 spots. Other than that, VERY well done.

Your originality as always is very refreshing as are the straps and small details. I agree that the smoke launchers are a little too small. I may suggest getting Blast's weapon's set for the humvee and copying the parts. Also from the pictures the ALICE packs seem too dark. The one I have and all I've seen are pretty faded from use. Overall a great job with few improvements, but as long as you are happy with it, thats all that matters.
Merry Christmas,
Jeff

I had my nephew have a look at the model. He spent 8 days "supporting" a Special Forces camp and got to see alot of their weapons. From his description this group had a very nice collection of weapons going back to WWII. Several men carried Thompsons on patrols. He was able to shoot a number of the "modern" weapons.
His only comments were that the packs were a bit shiny, and that the SF teams he saw always kept the vehicle sides and back clear in case of a rapid bail out. He might have pictures, I just found out he has a dozen or so rolls of film to develop.
He also said that on several occasions an SF team would walk up to a vehicle they wanted, and take it! And, they did not bring it back!
Please, where is the site with pictures of this truck? It looks like a good project. How about a good M998? The armored truck he took pictures of in the cargo version.

Wow what can I say yeah I wasn't sure if I messed up by using that machine gun. As I said the M60E3 came from Dragons modern weapons set. But hey thanks for the input...still a learning process. I think I'll ask more questions if I do something like this again. Again thanks.
