Hi there,
I have finally gotten to the point that I have decided to abandon my
old inherited Badger single action and buy something new.
I have been looking at the different Aztec 470 airbrushes since
they seem quite versatile, change between single action and double
action, many different needles/tips and variants of colour cups.
It's the 4709 set that I have been looking at
http://www.testors.com/catalog_item.asp?itemNbr=50

Is this a "good buy" or should I spend that kind of money on some
other airbrush instead ? I really need some good advice here since
it is a substantial investment.
Thanks in advance / Robin

I would stay away from an aztek myself nothing but a headache would buy something better. A Badger 150 double action would be good. Just my opinion though

Hi there

I have the A4709 and it is a nice brush, cleans easily and sprays ok. Perfect for an intermediate level person.

One thing to keep in mind though. I know two people with the A4709 and they both said that it had developed air leaks. I've had mine for a year and it has started to leak paint. I sent it in for repairs about a month ago and I am still waiting

As one who has always used an Aztek, apart from a brief and unsuccessful spell with a badger, I think I can say with some authority......don't buy an Aztek! :-)
Seriously, I've recently switched to an Iawata, and I wish I'd done it years ago. The control you have over spraying is unbelievable. Definately the way to. Iawata.

I gotta agree with Vinnie! I switched from Paasche to Iwata about a year ago and have never regretted it. I still use the Paasche for general airbrushing, but it is a pain in the neck to clean. My Iwata HP-C is gravity fed, feels great in your hand and is a breeze to clean. Not to mention the absolute control which allows me a smooth transistion from pencil-thin lines to broad coverage. Anytime I want to apply a nice tight camo, I reach for the Iwata!

I agree with Vinnie I'd go with an Iwata, for a few years I'd use babger 150 and I liked it but never loved it.The Iwata gives you so much more control and it is worth evey penny. It didn't take very long for me to get used to it.
Good Luck!!!!!

Hi Robin - the Aztec 4709 is a very popular airbrush set for model makers, if you're a fan of Aztec then you won't have problems with this one. It is certainly versalite, with its provided variety of nozzle size.

Perhaps you should also look at other ranges too before making your final choice - I like the Iwata range because of the stainless steel interior which makes for easy cleaning and also makes the airbrush hard wearing, but recognise they are more expensive.

Obviously the final choice is yours, and there are so many on the market - good luck and happy spraying!

Robin,
Having had my HP-Ch for a few months now and having used Azteks for a number of years, I would say Iwata to you every time. Quality and versitility and I think that this seller on EBay offers excellent service and value. I know that some other members have also been happy with the service. have a look by following the link anyway, mine arrived in a little under 5 days from the order to it arriving on my doorstep in the UK.

Got to agree here. I do the same thing Mike does with the Pasche for general and area airbrushing. Any detail and close work goes to my HCP Plus
Possibly the one best investment I've made in this hobby.

Cheers,
Charles

Over the past year and a half, I switched from a Badger 150 (which I liked) to an Iwata Revolution (for broad coverage) and an Iwata HP-C Plus for finer jobs. The Iwata is an incredible airbrush!

Thanks for all the answers!

It seems that the Aztec is not the airbrush to buy,
I'll check the Iwata airbrushes and maybe look at
some others as well. Maybe an Evolution Silverline?
