Hi chaps
I am trying to build a Sherman 111 from the Sherwood Rangers, C Squadron, 8Th Armoured Brigade,
What I need are the tank markings or if you know of one, the decal set I couls use.
Any help would be great.
They served in NW Europe after D day.
Cheers

Tony,

The 8th Armoured Brigade, unit insignia was a red fox head on a yellow background (some references have black on yellow) and was originally derived from the 10th Armoured Division sign which the brigade was attached to. The web site below shows one interpretation. But the actual insignia applied to vehicles would appear to be much more simplified and stylised.

http://www.warlinks.com/armour/8th_armoured/index.html

The Arm of Service/Tactical markings for the Nottinghamshire Yeommanry (the Sherwood Rangers) in Normandy was a white '996' on a red square with a white bar on the bottom. Some photo's seem to indicate the Unit and Tactical signs were combined into one marking.

C Squadron tactical markings for the junior regiment would normally of been a blue circle. I would of thought that any specific lower level Troop and individual tank markings will be hard to come by, I would of thought, without trawling through some photos.

Skytrex have some 8th Brigade Unit Marking decals and Squadron markings in their 1/35 scale range (British Divisional Signs Set 1 (Ref No : AD50)) and (British Tank Markings AD52)
http://www.skytrex.com/

I had a quick look through the Archer Fine Transfers but found no 8th armoured Brigade Unit markings, though they have squadron level markings. (Set No : AR35086BL)
http://www.archertransfers.com/BritishAFV.html

I could see nothing at the Fingerprint Designs site.

I hope this is of some help

All the best.

Many thanks for the links and the information. These are exactly whar I am looking for.
I have tried very hard to find pictures on the 'net, even mailed the regiment (no reply) but have had no luck at all.
Thanks again.

Tony,

I have some Brit regimental markings from various kits over the years. When you narrow down everything you are looking for and have some photos, let me know and I'll see if I have anything for you.

Hello Tony,

No not build. I'd never go back to the dark side. But it gives me an excuse to get one of those Tigers I built years ago out of big box in the corner and re-mark it. :-)

Briefly, before it was shipped to the UK-where it disappeared!
