My son just sent me a few pics of the trucks they are using now I Iraq. Not sure exactly what the numerical designation is.

By the way, they have had three of these types hit by IED's, 155 shells mostly, and no one has been hurt yet.

Thats the M1151 with the add on suplamental armor package. I can't remember the nomenclature it changes to when the armor is added.
I uploaded a bunch of wal arounds of the M1151 to Prime Portal when we got them here in Texas at my shop.
You can tell it is an M1151 by the air condition units under the rear fender wells.
It looks like it has a lot of extra stuff added to it.

Just confirmed with the manual. It becomes an M1151P1 when the suplamental armor is added on.

Thats an Ibistek front bumper and swaing away spare tire mount. The tire mount is a work of art, but the bumper leaves alot to be desired. All aluminum except the tubing. Alot of them shear off where they mount to the truck. I have detailed pics and dimensions of it that I have yet to post. Its pretty common on the 1114s and 1151s.

Great reference material. Looks like it can really protect the crew very well.
Thanks for sharing.

The only thing I care about and would like to see is the bottom of the vehicle. They can add all the armor on the sides, the front, the rear, and as much ballistic glass for the gunner they want in the turret, and all I care about is how much armor they put on the bottom of it. I dont like the idea of my whole vehicle going skyhigh cause my feet werent protected.

My understanding is that the crew compartment protection is as good, or better, than the M1114. If you look at the first picture, behind the driver's side wheel, it's pretty squared off, similar to the M1114, which indicates part of an armor package.

Wow Tony nice photos, great references. Would you happen to have other on hand, if so I'd like to see them.
Well I've been looking to build something different, and having a Hummer kit sitting here seem fitting. I like the scratchbuilding challenge and this one looks very inviting.
Thanks for sharing, and all the best to your son.

Mother,
If you go to Prime Portal, I uploaded a bunch of walk arounds of the M1151's we recieved a few months ago. They do not have the armor package added, but is a very good start. I will see if i can locate an updated ETM for the M1151/52's and see if i can pull out the sheets for the armor package depending on the sensitivity of the information.

The only problem with that is too much armor and you end up being a fixed target because the vehicle's drivetrain can't handle the weight.

I've seen pictures of the bottom of uparmoreds, and there are some plates added to the bottom, mostly near the sides and in the footwells and just behind the front wheel wells. I don't know if there is any armor added above the drivetrain along the centerline of the vehicle. I wonder if the thought is that the drivetrain provides much of the protection?
As for being too heavy, thats why they completely redesigned the vehicle to include a stronger frame and I believe a stronger engine. Uparmor an M1025 and you have serious weight issues, but new uparmored humvees were designed with the extra armor in mind. Now thats not to say that there still aren't problems. But the debate between lighter weight and faster mobility versus stronger armor has been contested for some time and because of political considerations, the heavier armor is starting to win out.

Whats this Prime Portal you speak of? I have a TON of 1114 pics, but uploading them to Photobucket is a pain.
