The Academy Merkava 3 is in my hobby shop. Was wondering what is considered to be the superior kit of this vehicle.

The Academy is about $10 less than the Tamiya.

Tamiya's Merkava is a type 1. I think Academys is the only type 2 and type 3 on the market. But I've been known to be wrong before.

Technically, Trumpeter has one on the market, but it is a poor copy of the Academy kit. The Academy kit is the only game in town for the Mk II or III.

Actually the academy mark 3 is of the prototype at latrun. So as far as it goes it's correct. While AEF's updated hull for the three is reasonable its turret also leaves abit to be desired. the same goes for the cromwell. AEF's 3d baz is nice and gives a good impression of the turret. And then there are roadwheels I have not seen Cromwells except in photos and as reviewed by others but of those available to me Dreamcatcher's (master by rick howden) are the best all steel wheels with most accurate feel.(review in the works) hope this helps.

Castoff Models in the UK produce a great update set for the Mk3, it includes both turret and production road wheels. You can contact the manufacturer at [email protected]
