Did the Marines, Army or both have the extended bustle rack?
Thanks

I am building the Tamiya OIF abrams. If I use the extension from the DML kit, which one does that one represent? I am doing 2 Marine M1's.
Thanks

The one from the DML kits is the Army type used by only 2nd BDE, 3ID tanks in OIF 1. The USMC type is available in the Academy OIF Abrams kit and as a PE piece from Eduard. Here is a review I did on an AM USMC type. I am not sure you can still get any though. Gary doesn't seem to be offering them any longer.

The cooler was also from Gary Johnson, who produced the BRE. Not sure if he is still making them either though. He had a bad run of with and cut way back. You can try contacting him at the email in the review though. Good luck.

One more thing. If you are modeling a more modern 3rd ID tank you can also use the Marine Corp BRE for them also as they are being issued with the tanks that have come back from reset.

This is probably one of the best pictures of this rack I have seen. It's not often you get a top down view of a tank in theater, and the quality is rather good.
Hope it helps.

Good pic. That is a good shot of the folding BRE, also known as the Marine style. As you can see from the M1A2 it is on, it is now used by the Army as well. These were first seen in theatre on Army Abrams of 4ID and 3ACR (as in the pic) in late '03 adn early '04. They are standard equipment on the latest batches of M1A1 AIMs coming from depot and have been retrofitted to most Army M1A1s by now as well.
