Hello all.

While I´m still waiting for Dragons new Abrams to arrive (not this year), I´ve decided to build one of the other kits. Which one is the best? Tamiya, Dragon or Trumpeter?

Hi Torbjörn,
the tamiya kit is lacking some details,
the dragon kit is difficult to build and
the trumpeter kit has got a wrong turret shape (can be fixed with some sheet styrene and putty, if yo want to)
the best solution would propably be a combination of the dragon and the tamiya kit, just take all the nice details dragon offers and fix 'em onto the tamiya "skeleton"
hope this helps

Assuming you are talking 1/35 scale, would the Italeri/Zvesda kit get a mention?
cheers!

I have to say Dragon before Tamiya. The Dragon kit is NOT difficult to build if you take your time. As mentioned the Tamiya kit are missing some detail (no slip f.ex.) but goes together easily.

Here are my Dragon and Tamiya Abrams (with some additional detailing...)

I agree with Erik, the older Dragon Abrams are the best overall. Much better than the Tamiya M1A1/A2 in my book.

The Italeri/Zvezda/Revell kit is an improved copy of the Trumpeter kits. They did fix the turret shape issue on them though.

For a side-by-side comparison, check out Vodnik's M1 Comparison Article. It features all of the above and shows the downfalls and plusses of each.

heh I started on an Italeri Abrams when my AIM came in. After one night of working on the AIM, the Ital kit went into a closet and resides now at the bottom of the spare boxes pile.... I'm waiting it out on the SEP
