I've seen a couple of copanies modeling this, ICM, Alangers...can anyone give me some direction on the better T-28 kits?

Maybe these reviews will help you to make up your mind :
ICM T-28 review on Hyperscale

ICM T-28 review on Track-Link

another ICM T-28 review on Track-Link

AER T-28 review on Track-Link

IIRC, Alanger's T-28 kit is a reboxing of ICM's kit...

The ICM T-28 is just about the only worth while game in town. Be prepared to put some "additional" work and time into it. I have the IT-28 and T-35, both nice, but a lot of extra effort (clean up, fix, alignment) will be called for.

Other than a few choice words thrown at my IT-28, it's been a pretty fun, if slow, build.

Pictures of the T-28 are all over the net, so that'll help!

That first ICM review shows what amounts to near full turret interior detail. That's stock?

The AER T-28 is a little harder to come by, but don't waste your time tracking one down. The ICM kit is what you want, and you can get one for pretty cheap. It's not the easiest of builds, and yes all of the ICM kits come with some form of partial interior. Further the Alanger kit is just a rebox of the ICM.

Thanks, must say I'm smitten by the kit. As a kid I always thought the T-28 was a cool tank with the multiple turrets, thought it would be "fun" to fight from (you know how you think as a kid, war is cool...)

The interior is VERY,VERY simple. Much work would have to be done in order to look good. Engine is ok. Drive box is ok but little can be seen of it through the fan and shroud. All that being said, it builds into a cool tank.

Two books that might be helpful are as follows:
The Russian T-28 Medium Tank -- Barbarossa Books

Advanced Techniques - Painting and Weathering Military Vehicles--Vol 2
Auriga Publishing (this has a very nice display on what one person did to fill in the interior)

Hope it all helps

The ICM and Alanger Kits are the exact same kits. Alanager bought the T-28 and T-35 kits (maybe others) when ICM went out of business. ICM has since restarted doing new kits.

The T-28 and T-35 are both excellent kits with good detail, engines and partial interiors. They are a great buy for the size, qulaity and interiors.

My only complaint is the individual track links, I am just not a fan of individual links from any maker.

Fruil and Model Kasten both make workable track sets for both kits and Jordi Rubio makes an aluminum barrel set.

Have fun its a great subject!!

I agree, they are a really cool looking beast, alongside its brother T-35, if I come across one I'll definitely grab it.

A very nice build Ron, you've done a great job on making the vast expanses of hull sides look nothing like a monotone shade of green.
