All right Ian! Way to go! I was going to try to get a club started here in my area..but...I think I'll hold off now! There is a club about 15 miles away and I've called to get info on joining and attended some ot their shows but they are a closed bunch and really dont want to have anything to do with OUTSIDERS!
BOTTOM LINE...and I'm glad you realized this........if you are happy doing this then no one else in the world should matter. It's like working with the public...just because one person makes it hard for you, not everyone is bad. These crazy guys/girls on this site represent the other side of the modelling world..caring,helpful, NUTS!!!!! and they represent what is good about this hobby. Not like the small mided individuals down the street at your local club. We truly are a WORLDWIDE club and I wish I could meet each one of them in person. Jeff

Hey sasman.....I am glad you are reconsidering your leaving the greatest hobby in the world. Don't worry about what other people think of your work.....although we are usually our own worst critics, I myself had posted some pics of my first project since I started back up in this hobby, and after about a 10 yr hiatus, I discovered that its like riding a bike, you never forget.
My best friend lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia...and they have a huge model show down there every year in April....well last year was the first year I went.....didn't enter anything...just went and looked at the entries, and let me tell you...there were some awesome models there...hell even the Junior's models looked better than mine. Well before Xmas, I decided that it was high time I got back into the hobby....and my project was a Dragon BTR-80, using some experience I had, as well some of what I learned from this site....I set out to build this. Now I am not saying that its perfect....far from it....but considering I haven't touched a model in 10yrs...I didn't think it turned out that badly. And from the encouragement I have gotten from members on here about it....I am going to enter it in this year's contest coming up in April, as well as my hometown's contest coming up here in May. I know I probably won't place in the top 3, probably not in the top ten, as they are pretty serious about their models down there....as we all are....just they seem more the stuck up, if its not built their way then its wrong, but that doesn't deter me, because I know in my heart I did a good job, and I am going to show it off!!!
Anyway...here is the link to it, as well it has the link to my MSN site where all the pictures are.....like I said...its not perfect, but its mine and I like it!!!
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/8878&page=1
PS: Also working on a F-20 Tigershark, that I am going to do in Canadian markings...kind of a What If project.....trying to get it finished for an online contest....will definatly get it finished for the show in April.....but not sure about the online contest. Also doing a modified version of the USS Enterprise from Star Trek 6, kind of what happened to the ship after Capt. Kirk's crew retired...according to the so called records that Paramount has produced....the Enterprise A soldiered on for another 7 years after Kirk's crew retired. Stay tuned for pics of that!!!!!!

Ian,
Just a word from one more guy who has had his best modeling efforts nit-picked and belittled by people who have never been near a real armored vehicle (except maybe at the Patton Museum) and certainly didn't have any knowledge of the little ways a crew kind of customizes, especially the interior, of a fighting vehicle.
What counts is that you know your work is correct. Press on!

Stick with it mate. Why give up your passion for such a fantastic hobby, just because of some one elses opinion. Keep bashing out those kits, and never lose sight of why it was that you started in the first place. Personal satisfaction.

Are you Scottish or something less?
My surname is Kerr -- it''s Scottish and I'm damded proud and frugal because of it. I'm also part German, Irish, French Canadian and Native American, so don't get me into a drinking contest.

Glad you changed your mind and decided to keep on building. I don't understand your reasoning for the decision to give up the hobby in the first place. It's not like you need a foursome or a tennis partner. Model building is a solitary activity. While it can be done in groups and constructive criticism/helpful hints are nice to have, you get more done when you are working uninterrupted by yourself. If the guys at the local club are not making your meetings a pleasant experience, stop participating in the group. After all, it will be their loss.

I agree with what everyone has said. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! Never let another person dictate who or what you are.

Ian,
I think that you should simply ignore these "narrow minded people" and go straight away on your way. Unfortunately the world if full of people like that and this is the reason why I try to stay away from "organized modelling clubs", where in the end there's always somebody who wants to prevale on the others. So in my view these people are not worth the hobby and the subject of your post should be: "Farewell to modelling club"!

Ian - you've come up with the same reason I left the IPMS years ago - now the only "clubs" I belong to are on the 'net - If I want to show my work I can, and because the only people on Armorama and other sites are modellers first and foremost I get help and any criticism is constructive.

Sasman, you mentioned you drove a Challenger. Why not drive the Challenger to that guy's house, eh? Load up HESH and fire!
Just kidding. :-) Just don't let others' comments take you off from the hobby again. I, too, had my share of criticisms (e.g. it's a child's plaything). If I were to stop doing the hobby, it'd be because of health, money or just plain tired doing it (cold turkey sometimes happens). Keep the faith! :-) Again, it's glad you reconsidered your decision.

Well I have got to thank each and every fellow kitbasher who took the time to post a message in support of me.I hope that if we ever meet it is somewhere that I can buy you all "a hauf" or in english a glass of the water of life. Thanks again guys
One more reason to keep building. My Trumpeter Challenger 2s arrived at the shop yesterday so I WILL have to build them :-)

It's nice to see you back in the mood !
Once in a while I tend to stop building... but never for very long as I'm too addicted ! And it's that way since I was 10 years old !
So I'm not too afraid for the people who are depressed about the hobby, and I'll always heartily welcome them back to the hobby !

Don´t give up Sasman 21, this hobby is wonderfull and you don´t need to be part of any club or organization to enjoy the pleasure that get when bulding your kits and latter whwn you see your job finished. I think it´s the same thing all around the world you´ll allways find people who prefers trouble instead of enjoing the main object of a creative activity like this one. I´m in the hobby for a long time and I never need to be part of a club to get fun bulding my kits, I think you too can. Don´t be angry, think before taking such a decision.
