Hi gents! Can anyone give me good info about captured German tanks under American/Commonwealth flag? All I know is the Panther G "Cuckoo". I also had read that the American 104 Inf. Div. had a captured STUG III. Pictures would be good. Thanks!

There is of course the Bovington Tiger. I don't know if it was used in action, but I think it was driven around a bit & exibited in London before the engine cried enough. There is a photo in Lefevre's Panzers in Normandy book (I think it's reprinted in English as an "After the Battle" volume), which shows a British crew from the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry using a late Tiger. Don't know if this is any help. There are also numerous pictures around of Sdkfz251s with US stars on.

Canadians in Italy captured a Semovente 41/18 and used it to good effect. There is even some Canadian Film Board newsreals of this somewhere. I have caught a snippet of this vehicle a couple times, but no stills, unfortunately.

The book Patton and the Battle of the Bulge, by Michael and Gladys Green, published by MBI Publishing Company has a couple of photos.

Page 7 shows a King Tiger with a group of US GI's taking a joy ride. The turret number appears to be either 11 or 111 (obscured). Small tarps with stars applied have been applied to the front and side(s). Curiously the front star is upside down.

Page 112 shows a 251/D repainted with a star on the back doors, loaded with kit and moving out with GI's aboard.

Page 125 shows another 251 with stars painted by the Germans to cause confusion. At the time of the photo, a couple of GI's appear to be trying to fix the engine.

The captions are very general, so not much info is presented. In general I would recommend this book as inspiration for a number of dioramas, particularly snow-bound scenes.

There is a photo in one of my old books of some Polish tankers being inspected by a senior officer some where in North Africa. They are lined up in front of three immaculate Pz IIIs, numbered in sequence and sport the British red/white/red recognition bands.

Thanks a lot gents! Much appreciated. Maybe this'll be a good excuse to grab more German kits and replace them with Allied star for a change :-) :-)

From what I recall, the Tiger II had some US stars draped over it as it was transferred back to the rear -- the Tiger II never was used in action against enemy forces, AFAIK.
