I've got a bunch of M1114 pics that I'm currently getting up on Prime Portal (I know some of you asked me to email them, but my connection here is pretty slow, so it would take me quite some time to get them out that way). These are pics of a M1114 converted for SF duty. Its basically an armored DUMVEE, so its not really a DUMVEE at all. I don't know what to call it. I have a few more of this specific truck that will go up on Prime Portal, but I couldn't wait to share these .

James,

Great pics! ...and timely. I am working on a similar armored "dumvee" at the moment based on one that was shown in a Jesse James TV special from Iraq ( it has the more common gunner armor and features a minigun). I've only gotten to the armored doors so far. I made my own after comparing the ones in the MIG Productions M1114 kit to pictures... the shape lookes off to me. Still, its a good conversion kit.

Anyway, thanks for the pics and thanks for your service.

By the looks of that turret armor, I would guess that the vehicles belongs to one of the Ranger units that supports the Coalition Special Ops guys doing their secret squirrel missions. The versions that I saw had the turret armor on stripped down HWWMVs. It makes sense that they would do the same armor protection fro th egunner on a M1114 chassis. The "guys in back" GIB armor is also something new. Great pictures... James, keep your head down, drive the centerline and come on back after this second tour is done.

Just an update-
I'm still waiting to hear back from the guy at Prime Portal, so I haven't forgotten about these.

Damn, I almost missed this thread. Those are some great pictures James. If you have any more to post, that would be great. This doesnt look like a difficult conversion. As other have stated I would be interested in seeing the front. I think the hardest thing to scratch would be the turret armor. Very cool find! Stay safe over there!

The photos aren't up yet, probably by this weekend.

The front of the truck looks just like a standard M1114 so I didn't get any shots of it. I did get a bunch of shots of a standard one that will be uploaded.

James,

The photos you posted on Prime Portal are great! Thank you for posting them. They fill in a lot of those grey areas I was wondering about with all the field modifications. It appears Mad Max is alive and well in "the Sandbox".

On one hand is great to see the ingenuity being employed to improve survivability. On the other, it is tough imaging that the troops rely on these updates to stay one step ahead of the ever evolving threat.

Thanks again James.

Wow James, those pictures are great! I had thought about scratching the SF M114 with the open back. It doesnt look terribly difficult to scratch build from the outside. But once I saw the interior.........oh lord the humanity!!! I would be a year just trying to build the interior! Talk about unbelievable amounts of details! well guys, I think its safe to say you wont see Tamiya or Dragon making this one any time soon! LOL Still, great pics and an amazing find!

I've added it to my "To build" list, but I won't be getting to it anytime soon.

I'm glad everyone likes the pics
