Greetings all,
Those of you who picked up on my post on the Tank Riders Figures will now understand why I was looking for a method of mass producing consistant rifle slings.
These are some of the troops I'm working on for my D Day Landing dio on Nan Red. Having now worked out a suitable method I will be able to go back and finish off these chaps.
There will be a mix of commandos off loading and Canadian infantry on the beach area.
The dio is to accommodate the first 3 RN boats I built some time ago and will be the next major project after pier 51 although I've been developing bits of it as I go.
I have included a couple of pics of the tank riders again as some of them will end up in the boats, a 3" mtr and one of the bunkers.
There are many more figures to do yet but with my rifle sling problem worked out I can at least get these guys done.
Apologies for the poor pics but it's raining again here, so it's in doors and the flash.
Cheers
Al

Hey Al,
Struth Ruth, you have been busy lately!!I stopped counting the figures around the thirty mark .I might of missed a thread, but which method have you used to mass produce rifle slings?
I can see a mix of figures there, which sets did you use for them? Are some converted a little?
Cheers mate,
Shay

Hi Shay,
There will be around 45/50 troops, some on the beach some off loading from the boats, so there is quite a way to go yet. There will also be some German Prisoners, wounded etc and hopefully a Beach Party of RN.
These are a mix of Resicast, Tamiya and Dragon with some other sets of legs used for the kneeling ones, the sets from the Tamiya 6pdr that everyone says throw away. I've used an assortment of heads mainly Hornet and the AA update sets for the commandos.
The sitting down guys are the Cromwell tank riders I posted earlier
For the slings, I'm using .4mm lead wire rolled flat with a wall paper roller, that way all the slings will be the same. Talking of which I just relaised that the sling swivel on the SMLE No 4 Mk I was half way down the stock. For some reaosn my memory was telling me it was at the end of the barrell so some slight adjustments needed - at least I hadn't done them all :-) :-) :-) :-)
Here's a link to the original post, the sling stuff is near the end.

Hi Steve,
It's a long way in the future but I'm working on the figures slowly but surely. A lot more to do, wounded and dead to make and some houses to construct for the shore line. Active RN sailors for the boats and lots of other pieces before the ground work starts.
Figures take me ages to get half right but cracking the sling making process has helped a lot.
I'm hoping a few new sets might appear before I get it finished, recycling the same base figures is difficult and my sculpting/home made skills are still relatively weak.
There are a couple of deep wading Bren Carriers to make for the LCM 3 and German Prisoners/Defenders and a bunker or two to make as well. I have a range of defences to add to the beach/sea area so the whole thing will take me a fairly long time.
I have to finsih Pier 51 first but it's coming along nicely and I have to stop occasionally to feed my Sherman fetish :-) :-) :-)
Another long term project.
Cheers
