Hi,
At the moment Polish Army uses ceveral vehicles which are used also by Bundeswehr: Leopard 2A4 MBT, Bergepanzer 2A2, Biper 1, M577, M113 Command veh and M113 Ambulance. At the moment I can't tell you exact number of vehicles which are used by Polish Army- we are during process of receiving them. But accoring to contract between Polish and German government we will receive: 128 Leo 2A4, 10 Bergepanzer 2A2, 4 Biper 1, 6 M577, 13 M113 Command veh., 16 M113 Ambulance, 6 SLT.50-2 trailers, 91 Mercedes 1017, 29 Unimog 435, 25 Mercedes MB 290GD, 1 Heros command system, 3 ASPT shooting simulators, 3 turret simulators, 3 driving simulators, 48 AGDUS systems, repairing stuff, combat and training ammo.
Soon Polish Army will start receiving new wheeled APC/AFV- Finnish Patria AMV.
Also there are plans of Leopardisation our T-72/ PT-91 tanks- these tanks will receive 120mm Rheinmetall gun (first OBRUM drawings of PT-91 NATO shows it with completely new turret) and new electronics systems. Increased weight of this tank will make factory to rebuild chassis (I have a photo of PT-91Z with roadwheels similar to T-54/55 Starfish type) and to install new engine.
Hope it helps,
Michal

For the most part, I believe that these countries are using what equipment they had in inventory. Nothing says you have to have or buy Western armor in order to be in NATO.
Which is why I built my BTR-80 in a NATO 3 color scheme and put Hungarian markings on it.

Scott,
We're buying new equipment and modernizing current one to meet NATO requirements. Polish 10th Panzer Cavalry Brigade are receiving Leos to be fully compatibile with German 7th Panzer Division (this unit is a part of NATO ARRC).
Also to be reliable partner for NATO forces we decided to buy new APC/AFV for our units.
Guys from Czech Rep. will not buy new tanks for their army. They prepared very deep modernization program of T-72 to M4CZ standard.
Regards,
Michal
