I managed to take a couple of quick photos of my Italeri DUKW, complete with replaced rivets, bolts and other scratchbuilt items. I still need to do some work on the mounting of the gun ring and am waiting for my Howitzer as stowage.

Very nice, good and clean. Are they scratch built rivets? They look similar to stretched sprue.

They were made using .10 mil sheet and a Historex Punch and Die set.

I saw this already this evening on Missing links. I admired your patience with all those rivets. but when painted Im sure they will pay off. Really nice model.

I'll give you full credit for the job done with those rivets! I don't know which would have given out first on me if I had tried that; my fingers, my eyes, my patience, or my mind! #:-) Keep up the great work and keep us posted.

What did you use to mark out the spacings?
What punch n die set? The round or hexagonal one?
Looks incredible from here!

I used the original locations of the rivets as a marker for the replacements. As they are so flush, the application of the liquid cement actually makes the originals disappear. I picked up each rivet with the tip of an Xacto blade for placement.
As for the punch, I did use the round one, even though they should actually be hex bolt heads for most of them. Had to make do with the punch set that I have. Given the size, I think it might be bairly noticable. However, I think it has given me reason to buy the hex set for future use.
The kit does have some minor flaws, but I think I may have to build another one in the future using the correct hex punch as well as possibly a small amount of photoetch.
In all honesty, there isn't a lot on this kit that can't be scratchbuilt. Photoetch may make a few things a litte easier. For example, the light guards and possibly photoetch window frames.
