Gday Gummi
This will be quite a large undertaking!!
The scale is going to be ?
In 1/35 the columns would be huge, easily dwarving any scene...
I'm sure the columns themselves would not be too difficult to scratchbuild though. Have you done any reserach regarding the girth of the actual columns?
Cheers
Brad

Hi,
Recently on a german board someone asked the same question.
Besides talking him away from this project (the modeller was a newbie of age 15) we had a few ideas how to do the structure.
I think you only have to start with a tube of the right dimension and on top of that you glue cardboard with the corrugated sheet (Wellblech) structure. You can cover this with dry Acrylic paste.
For a more solid version i think you can glue Evergreenstrips around the tube and cover this with plasterbandage. You don't push the bandage down, it will fall softly around the edges of the strips.
Let us see the result
Cheers
Claude

My wife does cakes, and I have seen pillars in the cake decorating section of the local arts and crafts that are perfect for large columns! They are plastic, reasonably priced, and come in a variety of sizes. They are for doing tiers on a wedding cake, and they are miniature versions of real columns. Check them out. I am going to use them for a diorama I will eventually get around to.

You may reconsider that with the 1,2 cm wide.
The coloumns have a real wide of 1,75 Meter, that should be 5 cm in 1/35 !!

Bob, you stole my thunder! :-) I was gonna suggest the same thing about the wedding cake columns, we have them in the Michaels craft stores up here, have a few to use somewhere...just scribe in the "sections" and take a dremmel and add nicks and scratches here and there for damage, paint, weather and it'll look cool!
