Hi Guys,

well some 30 slings late lol, lol. Here are the bulk of the assult troops for the two boats and the beach for my Nan Red dio. I still need a 3" mtr crew, some wounded and dead, a RN Beach Party, some more active sailors and a medic or two.

Apologies in advance, rain all day so you'll have the flash effect.

Nio doubl there will be some re arranging to do on the final make up of those on board.

Once again nicely done.

I am not sure if it is the flash but the berets look pretty bright.

Cannot wait for the finally dio of this and the dockyard.

It's looking very promising Alan.

I assume you're building this in a barn and not in your living room? :-) :-) :-)

Hi Matthew, Murdo,

another long term project :-) :-) , The figures take me a long time and I'm not copmpletely happy with a few of the faces yet. Had hoped for some sunshine and better pics but it looks like we're in for a few stormy days.

I'll check on the Beret colour Matthew, you're correct they should be a deep green and may be a bit bright.

Had to take a break for a Sherman fix, hope 2007 if being kind to you both.

Cheers

Hi Alan,

With regard to the first picture.........Wheres my MG42?

They are all looking very nice mate, I think you may have to custom mix a colour for the RM Berets.

Evening John,

There's a Bren behind the RN guy lol, lol. I'm sure I have a deeper green that I got; thinking on it I may have used the wrong bottle lol, lol. I can mix some up to deepen the berets down.

I suppose I'll have to add a few badges of rank, as my handed painted stripes are pretty naff. Still they have been sitting since before I went to China so it's good to get a bit more done on them.

Looking at the boat again it could use a bit more work on top, but then when is a model ever done lol, lol.

I'm keeping an eye out for s body shape for a RN signaler possibly using flags or alternatively a lamp,

Cheers

absolutly brilliant
you have made great use of all those figures
its great to see british troop being done
ive started to sculp standard british troops in battle dress
to mould and cast
but my main motive is to do them as commandoes
just like yours
ive already heads wearing berets done
and just need to keep casting them
ive 2 bergins aculpted to use with them
and ive all the gear to do
all will be moulded and cast up soon
but ive the bergins to use and bereted heads on those other commando figures i posted previously
i have to get them done too

your pill box is great and how did you do the berets they look great
and a good shape
its hard to get both the size and the shape right
what shade of green did you use
i have used a sort of brunswick green
i only did one
it was vallejo russian green 894 with small number 096
i use humbrol 155 matt olive drab for standard battle dress
which is wrong but i like it
keep up the good work
regards andrew

Looking good so far Alan. The only thing I can offer is to consider the poses of the figures. Some look quite relaxed and some are running or fighting posed. With a scene this large, the final paint-quality of each individual soldier, may be less important than believeable poses! The first guys off the boat look great, but the guys behind them could be queueing for a pint!

Hi Alan,

Looks really good.

Yeah, I know about the problems with flash photography and gloomy lighting conditions. Digital camera photos of models rarely come out looking nice under those lighting conditions.

Greeting all,

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Andrew,

The heads with Berets came from Hornet and some of the helmeted figures have Hornet or Ultracast heads also. Hornet make a couple of sets berets worn normally and casually.

For uniform colour I use Tamiya Flat earth with washes of Vllejo English Uniform and Burnt Umber. For the berets I use Tamiya XF 26 deep green, thisw looks much darker in real light so I'll wait until I can take some pics outside before I change it.

Your figures sound great, I've seen your work and your figures are excellent, I wish I had that skill.. Accurate Armour have burgens if you need en example to work from.

rear view

Hi Frank,

Take you point, the placement of the figures will be all important. However, all the references I've look at show them queing up to get off the boats so the huddle ( :-) :-) ) will be fairly accurate with the troops morving to more combat positions as they hit dry land and progress up the beach area. Kinda think tall to crouched to kneeling, lying would seem to be right.

I want a coule of guys carring bicycles and if possible one chap getting swept away by the tide, which unfortunately was the case for many.

Hi Peter,

Yip, unfortunately I don't have the room for an indoor photo booth so I'm dependent on the weather or stuck with the flash. My camera will only register/focus on the figs if there is something slightly larger behind them.

Cheers

Al
