I'm looking for some figures to crew a Vietnam war M113 I'm building. (69-70) Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places but there doesn't seem to be a lot out there apart from Verlinden. Are they the usual giants? Historex have some of them listed as 54mm.
The set I'm leaning towards is this

Pat,

Try also both Hobby Fan and Warriors. Both companies make Vietnam era AFV crew figures.

Hornet makes great Vietnam era M1 helmet and AFV helmet replacement head sets

DML certainly has some decent Vietnam figures as well so definitely check them out for some options.

What poses do you hope your figures to have for your M113 kit? Ive been looking for decent ones for my M113 that would be sitting down so that it looks loaded with troops. The only way for me to do this so far is to swap pieces from different kits.....if you see any Vietname era troops that are sitting and would fit well in an M113, let me know.

Jeremy Are you building the Italeri, Tamiya or Academy version? The interior of the Italeri M113 is so sparse that all I really want to do is have figures in the hatches to disguise the fact.
I have't come across any sitting troops that would look comfortable in the M113. I would imagine that with the proliferation of US WW2 halftracks from Dragon and Trumpeter we will soon get sitting troops to fill them which might with some surgery and new headsets fit the bill for your M113.

Excuse the stupid question but couldn't you use the figures that come with the Tamiya M-113 (kit 35040) ?

I don't know if the figures are available separatly though(sp?).

Hi Pat, Ive got the Academy Vietnam M113 in my stash and have held off building it until i could find some decent troops to fill it with.

I havent seen many recent additions of modern AFVs that came with a decent interior so i wont be holding my breath but its worth hoping anyway.

Cheers

There are no stupid questions
I actally have that set and considered it but the detail on their uniforms is really poor with the big chunky arms and the really sad looking faces

Hi,
Just a heads up. People riding on M-113's rarely rode inside them in Vietnam. It was hot, no visibility and a bad place to be if the track hit a mine. Sometimes they would line the floors with sandbags, too. If you can find a very old m- 113 crew set from Tamiya, they lend themselves to improvement with aftermarket heads, arms, boots, etcetera... I stress very old as the molds were sharper and the figs had better detail.
I can't resist commenting on the issue with size and scale being pointed out. The next time you're in a public place-look around. People come in all shapes and sizes. I'm 5'7'' and if I'm in a room full of men, I usually come up to most guys' chins or shoulders'. I've tried to incorporate this in my dios and I've even used Airfix 32 scale figs in them.
Good Luck!

Hey Pat,

Bravo-6 has a nice line of Vietnam figures. Some are Mech infantry sets that look like they are specifically made for the M113. Here is just one web site that carries them.

Hope this helps.

Pat,
I agree with this statement about riding on top of the track. Also, the crew members did not wear as much gear on their LCE as they were mech inf and didn't have to. The commander was frequently seen with trousers, boots,t shirt and flak vest with his LCE hung on the open hatch behind him.

I would actually have suggested this myself, but as I have yet to even take the shrink wrap off, I have no idea what the figures look like.

Thanks everyone but this thread is 5 years old- Hope it's of help to someone else

I did get a crew I think they were warrior figures.

@ Dave Black I agree about the Bravo-6 figures but they weren't around in 2007 when I was building my M113- in fact I wrote the first News Item about Bravo-6 on Armorama in 2008
