Very informative review Eth. Looks like AFV have aded some subtle improvements to the Aussie Centurion. I was waiting for this one, as it means that I don't have to bash the Aussie kit into an Brit version for someone who will want one. He has a 1:1 scale Mk 5, and wants me to add a model to go with the M110 and Land Rover I did for him.
Cheers
Henk

Good to see that markings are included for Danish and Dutch Centurions but I think that the Dutch Centurions had a different style of headlight and I don't see any mention of it in the review. I take it that they are not included?
I am also curious as to why AFV Club didn't market this kit as a Mk. 5/2, Mk. 6, Mk.6/1, Mk.6/2 and Mk.11 as they included all the parts required for all these versions,(IR searchlight, glacis plate armour, .50 Cal ranging gun mantlet, and turret basket), from the Mk.5/1 kit. They even included the 100 gallon fuel tank to make the long range versions.
Subtle changes to the instructions could have shown modellers how to build the different variants.
Well, then there is likely a Mk.11 version right around the corner.
Good review, thanks for doing it.

was the Centurion the first british tank with the superb 105 mm L7 gun?

yes according to my references the L7 gun was fitted into the Centurion as a replacement for the 20pdr in 1959. The old 20pdr wouldn't penetrate the armor on the new generation of Russian tanks at time.
I can not find any mention they installed it on another production tank earlier (the British MBT then was the Centurion until the Chieftan replaced it).

yes the centurion was the first
but they were allready there with the design when they started to use the type B barrel, all they had to do was make metric and bang you got the 105mm
funny enough they do fit the same breach as far as i am aware.
thanks

I've almost finished converting the AFV Club Aussie Mk 5 into a Canadian Mk 11LR. I might have made my life easier and waited for this kit. Oh well....
