Looking good, Klaus! I assume the fairly bright earth-red color in the last few pictures is a product of your camera's color balance settings (since the green in your pictures also varies), and that the real color is browner and duller. Keep us appraised of your progress!

Thanks Lucas, the shade of the brown will be treated properly after the use of oils and the weathering.....

Really a nice kit, but rather complex, first time I build a real multimedia model with all the goodies, and I´m very happy of the result until now.

Another thing, it´s the first ocasion in a loooooong time I painted a kit using an airbrush, I´ve got a double action one as a present for xmas, and I´m using my new compresor also....

More updates soon (mainly the turret work)

Cheers

Hello again, here´s some progress shots.

Gave a 2nd hand to the 3 tone camo, modifying also the shade of the brown colour (hope now be better Lucas, thanks for the pointer). Finished with the turret, now starting the detail work and decals. After that, weathering (oils, pastels and pigments)....

I decided to desert colour CIP panels just to give some contrast in the colours.

Less works to be done, hope to finish it next week

Cheers and thanks for looking

Looking great Klaus! For the benefit of Noobs like myself - can you please explain the steps you take in the weathering process in detail / dum-dum language?

I'd love to know how you do particular techniques!

Wow!! It looks great, Klaus! Once you're done with the weathering you should enter it in the Model of the Month contest.

I particularly like the covered the smoke dischargers and open breech on the commander's M2. How did you do that?

Can't wait to see the final product!

Thanks for the comments people, really appreciated

Stewy, I´ll try to post detailed pics and explanations of the weathering process in time....

Lucas, the .50 cal included in the kit has the option to build it with the open breech and ammo belts. Let me say something, it´s really a pain to build it, too small parts of plastic and PE. I guess it´s the worst seccion of the whole build.....About the smoke dischargers, I use tissue papaer diluted in white glue to cover them, I thaught it would be something different, since I plan to place the tank in a vignette with some figures in a "relaxed" pose

More updates soon.

Cheers and thanks for looking

Nice work everyone, I just bought htis kit and can't wait to get into it. I'll definitely use this thread to help me with it. Are there any after-market decal options out there?

Most definitely! Echelon and Archer both make several sets of dry transfers for a variety of M1A1s from OIF. I think Verlinden may also have a set. The kit itself comes with quite a few marking options, so you can pick from a wide variety of possible markings.

Be careful though, the decals are made to fit in M1A1 HC tanks, not M1A1 AIM.

More updates, added some stuff to the turret (gonna place a couple more things), straps, painted some details, gave some dry brush with gun metal colour, etc. Yet to paint even more details, and start the weathering process....stay tuned

Looks nice Klaus,
just one thing; the jerry-can on the leftside turret seems to be hanging a bit odd... or is it me?

Thanks Jurgen, the jerrycan is holding with just one strap, maybe looks odd because I wanted to depict an empty one

Looks good. What did you use to paint the TC's periscopes?

Thanks for your comments...

Thomas, to paint the periscopes I used Vallejo clear red over a black background

Cheers
