Greetings all
My question is in regards to early/mid-production M4s, and refers to the 2 lifting rings located behind the wider mantlet? Not the two running parallel with the tank (like the other lifting rings) on the narrow M34 mantlet, but two in similar position but angled side to side, perpendicular... I want to know if they were specific to a type of gunmount, or just phased out once the M34A1 came into prominence...?
Any help?
Cheers
Brad

From Hunnicutt (p. 139), it looks like the "sideways" lifting hooks were on the gun shields with the early M34A1 rotor shields. Though he doesn't adress it, it appears they may have been dropped to increase the elevation with the newer rotor shield.

Gday Bob
So it would be safe to assume that they got rid of these with the later mantlet with telescopic sight...
Thanks for the info
