Hey all,
Well I'm at the airbrushing stage of my Emhar 1:35 MkIV male tank and am trying to find reference material with which to use. The topic of what colour these tanks were seems to be something of a debate. I'm going to make this one into an allied version. I'm imagining that the markings were fairly basic (I understand the Germans were the only ones to paint camoflague....the allies didn't bother too much as withing days of being near the front the mud would cover most of the tank anyway). I could be wrong but I seem to recall that some allied versions may have had a white (for awhile) vertical stripe at the front....though I've never seen reference to suport it. So thats it....basically any reference of this vehicle at all would help me alot. I'm going to weather this model alot but would like something solid or near correct to get me started.
Also am wondering if anyone knows what the ww1 barbed wire looked like. I'm going to try to make some for my little dio.
cheers

Hi,
Suggest you try the Bovington Tank Museum web site. They have a new entrance display showing a 1:1 Mk 5 attacking German trenches and photos of it. Secondly try the library at the above. Thousands of WW1 photos.
If no luck try the Imperial War Museum, they have a web site.
Failing that try e-mailing David Fletcher at the Bovington Museum, a fount of knowledge on all things armoured. Don't tell him I suggested it!
Best wishes.

Guess what? I have actual color photos of WWI armor.
Yes, you heard me right. There are color photos of WWI armor. And, I may be able to send you a copy of the photo I have.
You can also try a search on the web. If you contact me, I'll tell you what to search for.
Before you tell me I'm full of it, there are lots of ORIGINAL color images of WWI around.
There were color processes in use at the time, especially in France and Britian. But, there are few color photos of A/C around. Believe me, I have been looking.

Don't know where you are in Australia, Powerlogik, but if you find yourself near Melbourne you could go out to Puckapunyal to the tank museum there. They have a (full size?) replica of a Mk V Male on display.

Hi arawata....isn't it funny how the sorts of things your searching for can sometimes be on your doorstep?? Unfortunatelly I live in soth west W.A. so Melbourne is a bit outta range (althopugh now on my list of places I'll travel to eventually). About 6 months ago I descovered that perth has a small aircraft exhibit that has a Lancaster!!! I never thought Perth would have a Lancaster....but it just goes to show.
