Hi guys,

I working on my M4A1 duel hatched version set in Normandy 44. Would anyone know what the correct suspension for this version was?

I had hoped to use the set that comes with the 6048 kit if possible, the one de[picted in the instructions as you get two different sets.

A little more work done:

Cheers

Al

Hi Al
I think all small hatch M4A1s had straight return arm rollers or possibly the older m3 suspension, I haven't seen any photos of them with the raised retirn rollers.

Well for that one I would go with Horizontal Return Rollers and you should be OK.

Hi Pat and Jeff,

Thanks for that. I'll use the kit ones which look like straight return rollers to me :-) :-)

Pat from the pics I've looked at the early M3 suspension was mainly on the DV versions, I have a picture of a mid production model in Italy and the suspension had changed by that stage.

It will have partial skirts so probably won't matter.

Thanks again.

The M3 suspension was used on only the earlest of M4A1s. I have never seen an M3 suspension on an M4A1 with a single piece transmission cover, or for that matter a photo of one used in Normandy.

M3 suspension was very rare in Normandy. There is one such tank, an M4A2, in the book Normanie Album Memorial. That is all I have seen. There are some M4A1 tanks in Southern France and Itlay that had the M3 suspension, with and with out the DV. One of these had the early rounded cast nose.
