I was just wondering if there is a good website that covers russian uniforms and gear during WW2? I've been mixing and matching those figures and I should probably find out if I'm way off the map or not.
Thanks

There is a selection of colour plates here which show some of the variety of uniforms worn by the Red Army and associated forces, like the NKVD
RKKA uniforms
Interestingly, some of the drawings are copied from the re-enactor photographs in the Europa Militaria book on recreating the Red Army.
Basic rule of thumb for uniforms is no shoulder boards before early 1943, up until then rank was shown on the collar of the shirt. Shoulder boards (pogony) were banned after the Revolution as symbols of the Czarist era.

A good book to invest in is "Red Army Uniforms Of WW2" by Anton Shalito,Ilya Savchenkov & Andrew Mollo published by Windrow & Greene. ISBN1-872004-59-8. Usual format for W&G. Period uniforms photographed now. A superb book and not that expensive. I think I paid about £10 for mine off Amazon. I've only used it a couple of times but it was invaluable for reference. Looking at the new MB figures coming out it may be coming off the shelf again in the near future.... :-)

Karl and I are talking about the same book, which I think is now out of print. Certainly isn't listed on the The Crowood Press website which now prints the EM series.
As an alternative, there's an Osprey book
Red Army
Crowood Press have some other books on Russian uniforms, but they're probably overkill unless you're really interested.
