Need some information on how anybody out there makes home made 1/35 scale tow cables for their AFVs. Would a place like Radio Shack have phone wires that would be the right diameter to twist in a pin vice set up to make some of these cables? And also would they have the plastic sheathing of the size to make those little loop ends on these cables as well? Or is there some other way that is easier and makes a better looking cable system that I'm over looking somewhere along the line?
Thanks and take care, sgrity

Don't go to all that trouble, just go to your local hobby lobby or whatever and look around the picture frame department. They will offer a selection og picture hanging wire, and something in there should come close to the size you are looking for. Paint it black and drybrush gunmetal and/or silver. Should do the trick for you.

You can always use the end loops and sleeves from the originals, drill out the end and then insert your own wire for the rest of the cable.

I tried picture hanging wire once, but I couldn't get it to sit down, it just kept springing back up and wouldn't droop right (any pointers here?). I think nylon thread (what Tamiya puts in some of their models) works pretty nicely.

Heat, a candle will work wonders to help it twist, turn, or bend right. AQ candle is also useful in straightening out regular brass wire for making staight hanholds and antenna.

while shopping at the local Hobby Lobby I ventured down the jewelry lane an found a nice lil spool that has what I've found to be some pretty darn near tow cable look alike and its cheap an hold paint very nicely..
$2.59 in .018mm 30 ft.
Beadalon flexible
7 strand nylon coated stainless steal bead stringing wire..
holds a nice shap with alil C&A glue
I've used it on My M-26 ATRV as well as tow cables on a couple tank kits I'm workin on.
hope it helps

Usually I make them with a nylon thread (the one the brichies use to attach a lead to and see if walls are straight) it hasn't problems of extra hair coming out, it's very cheap and you can find almost in any hardware store. I like it because is very flexible and you can easily bend it around any surface in a natural looking way. To allow it to keep the shape, prior to use it put in a 50% solution of water and white glue and let it dry almost completely, then put int place. When completely dried it gets any paint very nicely and you can subsequently dry brush it without any problem.
