Hi

I wasn't that interested in the Stryker but after these test shots how could you not be.

I would like the AM companies to bring out the cages for them too, but I would be happy to do my first without them. Hard to tell in the pics but are there more hatches than one that can open on top.

Thanks

Jim,

Thanks for the news! I'm definitely going to have to get one of these (or maybe two, or three...)

Looks like a limited interior (not necessarily a bad thing). I wish there were open rear air guard hatches, but I definitely do like the option of an open engine, driver's hatch and TC hatch. Looks pretty darn detailed too. Excellent. Now to see what the others are creating!

Nothing announced. Would be an interesting conversion. Don't be suprised if an AM company eventually makes a conversion for one.

OOOOOOOOH, I HOPE SO.........!!!

I have 2 Trumpeter LAV 25's and I could steal the turret off of one of them, a little spackle and voila...!! well, it's maybe not that easy but I do have a turret in reserve though just for this purpose. I can hardly wait.

Well if we put any faith into the statement from Dragon when they say they are coming out with the "Stryker Family" then we might just get something that closely resembles a Canadian LAVIII.

I did read some time ago (however I can't find it now, nor do I remember who it was from), that along with the Stryker, they were going to release a Canadian LAVIII like the one pictured.

Now personally I can't think that a company would produce a kit that would probably only be sold in limited numbers and to mostly Canadian armor modelers, but stranger things have happened.

I definatly could see someone like Track-Jam or Maple Leaf Models doing a conversion kit to make the CDN LAVIII out of the Stryker kits!!!

Well I must say this looks really nice. The wheels look outstanding. There is even the Michelin raised letters and other mold marks on the outside of the tire. Wheel rims look great too. I am impressed that they even have the tiny tie downs on at least some of the vehicle (side storage racks and in front of the RWS). They are all over the roof in reality but I can not tell if they are there on the model.

I hope they use the perforated brush guards for the suspension - not the early solid ones, but there is no indication in the provided photos.

I am disappointed that it seems the rear airguard hatches are molded shut as is squad leader's position. These three hatches are usually open and occupied. The driver's hatch is the one that is closed most often and that is open in the model. But this is minor.

What is important is that it is accurate overall, and it sure seems to be.

When can I have my grubby hands on this?!

I think the term Stryker Family refers more or less to the variants such as the ICV, RV, MGS, MC, CV. ESV, MEV, etc.
I've got interior shots of all. so I personally can't wait, no matter which company comes out with it first. I haven't done a ful blown interior in a while.

DJ, these were taken by Bill Nix. I imagine that this gallery will be heavily used in the next few months. Note that these pictures were taken of an early Stryker production model. I can almost guarantee that much of this interior has changed in some way. This is not a problem if you were to model an early Stryker, but it you want to use some of the newest ones, I'd bet you'd have to do a little bit of rework. Still, its much better than nothing.

Sure does look like it will be a good kit. Then again I like everything from AFV Club. The only thing that jumped out to me were the bolts and washers that ,I assume are armor plate retaining "pins", the detail on them does not appear as crisp as it should. And the bolt heads I believe are hexagonal. For a feature that will be all over the vehicle I hope that improves or it is time to abuse the ole punch sets.

Jeff--- I guess he took the photos at Fort Lewis. Those vehicles are assigned to one of the 2nd Infantry Division's Infantry Battalions. I think those guys are now in Iraq. Did you see the posting on the advanced crowd control device mounted on a Hummer? Wonder what the OPSEC boys think of that one.

For those who can get it, Military Modelling should be coming out with more than one reference article on the Stryker too. I know at least one article will feature production vehicles.

Osprey has a book out on the Stryker but for me it relies too much on pre-production/initial production vehicles. Concord announced a long time ago they were coming out with a Stryker book but I have not heard anything on that since then.

DJ, two things. Yes it is the 2ID. They are actually on their second deployment. During their first, the bird cage armor was installed.

As for the other post, yes, I've seen it, but lets not start a new arguement and stick to this topic

Jeff-- still makes my blood boil. But, I digress. Replicating the spaced armor would present a true modeling challenge that my fat fingers are hardly up to. Apparently, it works against the RPG just like the link chained worked in RVN.

I'm not quite sure who Bill Nix is, but I'm sure he must have similar shots .These were indeed taken by me at Ft. Lewis during a brief sojourn there last June. They are about as modern as they come-they were being refitted. I got shots of the MGS, the MC, and a few others, inside and out.
There were even some with the slat armor but I missed them by a day-I saw them before I had my camera with me.
I haven't been following the flap about the other post on here (I usually never do) but for those interested, I first obtained permission for all of the shots I took from the Army. The sticking point was with the civilian contractors. As I was in civilian clothes, and was on relaxed grooming standards, they had no idea who I was. I finally started carrying a hand written note from the lead engineer to assuage their fears.

And yes, weapons sergeant is one of the hats I wear on the team, but I'm going to let the some of the younger 18B's (who were born AFTER I went to the Q course) take the lead on the weapons stuff.

Yours is on the way as well . I took the liberty of throwing ina little exta PE and some dry transfers for the southern command, should you decide to finish in early IDF livery.
