Heya, Folks,

I've recently seen a few photos with Arabic writing on the rear hatch of AAVP7s in Iraq...

I am going to guess that it does NOT say: "Driver carries no more than $20.00 in cash"

Does anyone know what the translation is and if we can get a scan or even a decal of this phrase?

Thanks!

Much Aloha,

Johnny B.

Some are more polite than others. One version says "Convoy Ahead - Stay back 100 meters please." Other similar signs warn that violators will be shot.

Here's a link to one for a Humvee. You could use the text to add to your AAAV.

Here are a few examples (sorry for the poor quality....)

At least you can see that various messages can be found...

As, always, thanks guys!!

Great photos, Frenchy. Man, on that second to last photo look at the beating the desert sand paint took on the rear hatch --- I wonder if the rest of the vehicle is as scuffed up?

Also, I sometimes marvel at the amount of gear stowed aboard these vehicles... That same vehicle with the beat up rear hatch looks like there is a lot of gear topside as well... I would venture that given the height of the vehicle and the amount of gear piled up top that no one makes use of the vehicle's topside for anything other than storage (outside of the UGWS turret and hatches)...?

Much Aloha,

Johnny B.

If it were my track, I'd have had it reading "All guns and ammo lubed in bacon grease".

Interesting choice of words. Please explain your comment.

I am really hoping you aren't making a reference towards the Muslim religion.

Why?, is against the law or something or are Muslims the only people allowed to run around chanting 'death to all westerners'

I think it's in reference to devout Muslims not wanting any contact with a pig or it's byproducts as they consider that creature to be extremely unclean.

It is, and that's why it has no place in this forum. Or indeed on the site.

One of the rules of the site is " no politics, no current affairs".

As to your question, what you, or Muslims do 'outside' is up to you. I have not seen any Muslims 'run around' on Armorama shouting anything...

That's one way to make your vehicle and everyone in it a higher profile target for a rocket or IED....Not too smart.

Despite any personal opinions towards the people over there, we tried to treat them as much as possible with respect and civility. Things like what is suggested in that statement would not have been tolerated, at least in the unit I served in over in Iraq.

I think that a general predjudice to all Muslims as terrorists is a complete mistake. It would only serve as an aid for al-Qaida to recruit more terrorists. Especially in a region with a long history of religious inspired conflicts. I was surprised to found out that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all come from the same basic source, but have taken different paths and meanings.

Is it funny how we'll spend weeks researching every detail on an armor model, but won't even spend a few hours to understand another culture, except for media depictions? Truly a shame. No good soldier wants to kill or be killed, but its a duty that they have volunteered for to defend their country. It's a choice the prevents the average citizen from getting their hands dirty. Again, something that I think those who haven't served takes for granted.
