Hey All,

Been looking at the Revell 1/35 kit of this modern German SPG at my local hobby shop and am interested as it looks nice and big
But looking around the internet for reviews so I know what I would be getting myself into I wasn't successful and was wondering if anyone here knew of a review or any of you guys built this model? Haven't done a Revell military kit in awhile; last one was a truck and it was a big headache
Now I'm not shy of doing a kit that neds some work just not one that might end with me punching holes in the wall
Any help would be appreciated.

It is not the greatest, if I remember rightly the tracks are off and there is no aftermarket fix.
It is also not terribly well detailed.

It is a big and impressive kit when built up though.

Depends on what you're in it for.

Eduard does a PE set for the kit and the kit includes a huge aluminum barrel that's about the size of a souvenir baseball bat. I think Gino (HeavyArty) built one and is on display in one of his galleries.

The tracks are the same as the ones for the Leopard 1, so a fix is available with the HK Creations injection plastic link set (available in Europe via Real Modell).

There's a small review HERE It's in german but any online translation site will give you a good idea of the origianl text.

In short: oversized and soft details. bad tracks...

I also been looking for this one at my LHS and would certainly buy one if it ever appear on the shelves here

Good luck, Revell of Germany is notorious for short runs on their 1/35 scale armor kits. It seems like they do one run and it never sees the light of day again!

Thanks Rob, I did build it a while back. I agree with all the above. It can be made into a nice model though, with a bit of TLC.

I had to replace the tracks with Leopard 1 tracks too, however, they are not totally correct, but close enough. The actual track pads are a little staggered, not straight across the block as the Leo 1 tracks are. As stated though, there are no exact matches for them by any AM company. The kit tracks are soft rubber and would not stay together on mine. I did not use any PE on mine, but rebuilt a lot of the detail from styrene.

Here it is (sorry for the poor pic, old digicam many moons ago).

Hey folks, I happened to stumble on one web vendor (CNE models) that has the PzH 2000 in stock. Here is the link:

http://www.cnemodels.com/inc/sdetail/694

They seem to have two left in stock (as of Monday 5 Feb.). The price seems reasonable ($23) and shipping isn't too bad ($5).

Just for full disclosure--I don't work for or own CNE models, and have never purchased from them before, so I don't know about their customer service. I stumbled on their site while reading a thread in the for-sale forum here.

Well, I don't agree with any of the above.

Now, I'm no expert on the vehicle, but the detail seemed pretty good to me, and I had no trouble with the tracks. I enjoyed building the thing, and would do another.

The one major fault I had with the kit is the position of the pair of square sensors on top of the gun mantle...you'll need to move them back if you intend to simulate the canvas cover:

Other than that, the kit went together very nicely. Not sure why the other posters are saying it is light on details, perhaps they'd care to explain.

The detail is not light, but not well defined. Look at your picture for example. The bolt heads on the hull for attaching extra armour should be clean hex-headed bolts, they are round blobs. The guard on the grate under the barrel is not well defined with sharp edges, but looks more like round bars than flat steel plate. The smoke grenade launchers are not defined with a clear demarcation line between the launcher tube and the dust cover, again, very blobby and soft on detail. The tool handles are grossly over sized. Etc, etc....

You can see the difference in detail on a similarly angled pic of the actual vehicle. Pic courtesy of Tanx Heaven.

Like I said, it isn't a bad kit, just not a great kit.

and the mesh above some filter protected by a grate (maybe some air intake for the engine or similar) is represented as diagonal rows of
little knobs.
It can be built nice with a lot of care and attention but it requires good
references and lots of pictures. Mine is halfdone since references were not available when I needed them.
Another kit that I will have to start over .....
