Dave, I answered this post in Missing Lynx, but I'd almost bet my next month's pay that the 4ID doesn't have M49A2C fuelers. Been hanging around the US Army Armor and Mechanized Infantry Divisions for almost 20 years and have never seen one in use. Closest thing was the old 800 and 900 series 5 tons with TPUs (tank & pump units) mounted in the normal cargo bed.

Hey Rob
Saw that same post and also a bummer. Well, have the three tone on my vehicle and may just make it for my gallery at home. No one will say "No" and that is OK.

A few years ago, the RIANG had one and that was ah... well worn, but still being used. It was not in the 3-tone NATO, just plain-jane green (and rust), and I would imagine that it's long gone by now. If you're local to RI, give them a call. I saw it at Quonset Point. I have never seen any others either overseas or in CONUS.

Dave, I saw your post in the M978 thread, don't feel that you screwed up the kit or paint job. Take pride in your work and finish it up as you want it.

I served in the Bradley Mech. Inf. Bn. of the 1st (Tiger Bde) of 4 ID (Mech) [reflagged 2 AD] from 93 to 96. All we had were the HEMMT; M978. This also included both Armor Bn as well as Brigade HHC. Throughout my tour I never saw a M49A2C anywhere on Fort Hood, be it 4ID, 2AD, 1CAV, or even III Corp. Sorry
However, I did see a few of the old 2 1/2 Ton trucks with 2 fuel tanks in the bed.
Here's a bumper set for a truck in the 1 Bn 22 Inf, 1 Bde, 4 ID, Ft. Hood.
Leftside: 4-I-1-22-I Rightside: HQ-55
Note: the RS: vehicle number is not an actual vehicle. All other data is accurate and conforms with TB 43-0209, date: Oct 1990

The last M49A2C I saw in a tactical unit was in 1976 - We were just activating the 5th ID at Ft. Polk and my tank battalion's only fuel truck was an old M49A2C. It was soon replaced with GOERs and 5-tons with Tank-and-Pump units. They were still arounf, but generally belong to the installation for fire fighting, or wetting the tank trails to keep dust down, fueling moving targets, stuff like that. Now you could make it 1970s in the 4th ID with the old MERDC 4-color camo.
