Concerning the tamyia instructions of it s M1a2, it shows two versions to be made for 3rd ACR, F4 and F2 all 2nd Battalion.
My problem is after doing some research about ACR in IRAQ, the website of ACR does not list any 2nd Battalion,,,there are only 4 Squadrons.
So i am a bit confused. Does Tamya s decals for 2nd Battalion 3rdACR mean 2nd Sqaudron? Is battalion the same for squadron for ac regiments?
The F, does it mean FOX ?
I tried to find the story or background about the 2nd Batallion second platoon in order to know where I can exactly put them on the diorama.
I plan to do a little dio with 3rd ACR using both Tamyas decals

Hi, Oliver !!
You're right !!
Batallion means squadron and Company means Troop.
As if F means Fox company I don't know.
Couldn't find any information at Globalsecurity.com about that company.
Good luck !!

Hopefully this will help. Having been a former ACR trooper, i can say disregard the word Battalion. In the realm of U.S. Cav. designations (higher to lower), it goes as follows, Regt, Sqn, Trp, Plt, Sqd and Sec. Since i haven't seen your decals, i can't say if they were printed incorrectly. However when i was with the 2nd Armd Cav Regt, the unit designation markings were as follows --------
(2-2 ACR left front & G-28 right front), the first 2, is the Sqdn, the second 2 is the Regt, the G is for Golf Trp, the third 2 is 2nd Plt, the 8 is the eighth vehicle of that platoon. This is what i remember, if you can get a hold of "JANES" all the worlds Armor. Look up the M551 Sheridan, (if they haven't changed the photo), you will see two soldiers in Berets and the old OD fatigues, running to a M551 with my former squardron's markings on it. Good luck, and happy modeling. By the way 3rd ACR was originally consituted as Dragoons (mounted rifles), hence the motto "Brave Rifles".

Wolfhounds...when were you in 2ACR? I was in 2/2 ACR from 1985 - 1986, in, oddly enough, the only variation on a troop - H Company, then the heavy (tank only) unit in the squadron.
IIRC the heavy company concept has gone away in the ACR formation, but it's been a while since I've looked it up.

As a veteran of "Heavy" Company 2/3 ACR (82-86) it hurts to hear that the tank companies have gone away. Say it ain't so. Also, as far as I kow the 3rd ACR is the only one of the 3 regiments still operating as a TO&E unit. The 2nd and 11th are training cadre at NTC and Fort Polk. If true, what a shame. To Wolfhounds and Cyber Wombat, if you ain't CAV you ain't....... well you guys know the rest.

Sort of. 11ACR just got back last summer from a year in Iraq. They are currently transforming into a TO&E ACR again. There will be a seperate Squadron that will play OPFOR at the NTC.

That's good to hear. I never understood why 2 of the 3 ACR's were "put on the shelf"
