Hi guys, does a figure like the one with the Thompson in this link exist, but wearing the M1943 uniform?
http://www.usarmymodels.com/MANUFACTURERS/Coree/coree0028.html

Basically looking for a late(ish) war US Airborne figure pegging it!
(I'm thinking of the scene in Band of Brothers when Speirs sprints straight past an 88 to link up with another squad.)

Many thanks,
Harry

Dont' know of any. But....

In the book "Band of Brothers", there's a photo of Spiers with snow all around him, possibly near Bastogne, and he's wearing the 1942 suit. So perhaps, although in the series he was wearing the 1943 suit, it's possible he was really wearing the 1942 at that point. Mark Bando has pointed out many times that 101st AB troopers often hid a 1942 suit or two among their personal possessions, and wore them after Market Garden.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks Rob - I just looked in the book, and I've never actually realised that he's wearing a 1942 uniform! Watching the scene it does actually appear to be a M1942 uniform - so good news!

If I can find these Legend Production figures, they look like a good bet. Has anybody here made them?

Cheers!

Hi Harry,
Not sure if this is what you were after, but Verlinden do a set of running G.I's.Pics of the figures can be seen on this link HERE .There are other sets by various manufacturers but this was the first one to spring to mind as i have it in my stash.
Also,I don't know if you looked at MasterBoxes future U.S troop releases that Jim posted recently, they might be worth considering?
Cheers,Shay

Shay - Cheers - they look fab, but unfortunately I need an Airborne guy -(Fussy aren't I!)
Thanks Pat - I'm hopefully getting the Nemod figure with Thompson soon anyway, so I'll see what it looks like in the 'flesh'. Looks great though!

I was contemplating just such a scene, recently and came up dry on the appropriate figure to depict Spiers. I'm pretty sure he wore the M42 parachutist uniform at Bastogne, not the M43. Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy making a great scene. Please keep us posted and good luck. Dave

Alan - Thanks for the great links - esp the Friendship Model one. (It's been saved.)

Jumpmaster1a - I think I'll try it after my attempt at a slightly more simple dio (a vehicle on a road with a few figs), and after I've got a few current models out of the way!
I think the Speirs dio will need an 88, a late Panzer IV, and a late Tiger.

This is slightly off my own topic now :-) but is the newish Tamiya Desert Flak 88 a re-tooled version of their ancient one, or is it exactly the same, just with new figures?

Many Thanks,
Harry

Hi Harry

I believe with the 'new' 88 they added a few new parts and revised some others, but the majority of the kit is the same.

Have a look at this review by Terry Ashley on PMMS.

Cheers Dave - It was with the North Africa one all the way until I saw it had no bogies! I'll have a look at the old Tamiya one, should be ok with some half decent paint work...

Cheers!

Hi Harry, Hobby Fan has 2 running airborne figures. One has a BAR and the other has a Thompson. They are pricey, but very nicely molded...Good Luck,Vince
