I want my trumpeter SA-7 to be a Serbian vehicle circa 1991, and I don't know what color to paint it or what kind of markings it would carry. The TRUMPETER paint guide is very vague and does not tell you the nationality of the paint scheme. Is it listed on the sheet?

-Thanks

The SA-7 is a MANPADS (i.e. shoulder fired SAM) - I'm assuming you mean the SA-6?

The Serbian SA-6's were, as far as I know, painted in overall olive just like the Russian ones. I would imagine that since they were purchased from Russia, the cyrrilic markings would probably remain?

Well, considering the war only started in 1991 there is likely to be very little changes in markings or paint scheme from when they were part of the Yugoslavian Army.

The markings would probably just be regular Western numerals and not Cyrillic...the reason being is that the Yugoslavian army was comprised of all ethnic backgrounds, Serb, Croat, and Bosnian, before the war started. Almost all of the Serbian AFVs have a five digit number on the side of the hull or turret.

Google search is a wonderful thing....here's a link to some images of Serbian troops and AFVs...scroll down to line 15 and you will find two images of Serbian SA-6s (you can see the five digit number on the hull side)...you're welcome.

Most of the AFVs I saw in Bosnia were painted in a base colour of some type of version of Russian green.

No, the Yugos had there own color. Tamiya Field Grey XF-65 is a good match.

Correct, it was called SMB (sivo-maslinasta boja)... it was olive grey and I've heard from many modelers XF-65 is a good match.

Mario.

Hi
For the JNA/VJ/VSCG vehicle color I built (T55 and T34 85 MOD69) I used a mix of TAM field grey added with sky and flat green. The ratio is approximately 2/1/1 you can also try 3/2/1. You want a color which is lighter and greener than field grey. You can also use TAM NATO green added with flat white.
Markings are white numerals. I use HU grey 64 because the contrast beween lite green and white is too big.
For Micro paint I use HU102 and filters HU62,HU29,HU100

Hope this helps
Cheers
