First I have never seen any photos of a real 1:1 tank with ERA. I'll keep looking ffor a photo for you M8. Sec. about "Norman Lim" it's not in under the Article section its in the Gallery section under Modern (All countries). Its and IDF Tirans 5 Blazer an there are 4 posts on it from start to finish. As for a photo, I just found one and it's realy little sorry for it's size and it's in B&W:

For me I never believe in a build that I have never seen or hear of as a real vehicle, till I see a photo of it in 1:1 scale. So there you go. "Oh" and you can look here to this book review on kit maker of the Magach 6B Gal - M60A1 in IDF Service, Part 1 by Desert Eagle Publishing.

I hope this helps.

Hmm - how does posting a photo of a Centurion and info about Magachs help with Tiran info? Google up T55S or Samovar, there's a thread on IDF In Scale if you can access it.

Indeed. The photos is a Centurion Shot Kal with ERA, not a T-55 based anything.

Some of the Tiran 5s with ERA made their way into SLA hands but were used without the ERA installed, but you can see the mounting points. As pointed out the picture posted by Capt Caveman is indeed an IDF Centurion with ERA from the 80s. M Assad's excellent TIran book has several shots of the Tiran5s with the set up for the ERA package, but no tiles.

Martin;
Yes the IDF did and has used the Tiran w/ Blazer Armor,as Jim Carswell, has pointed out. They call it the T55S and if you find Janes encyclopedia they have a line drawing profile of a late T-62 with chassis updates and blazer armor from the M60 turret used. The T-62 version got updated Trans,engine, and suspension. Along with engine deck from late model Centurion Shot. It also uses the sights,gunners controls from the Magach. Now I dont currently have access to my file on this IDF tank(currently on Duty in TX), but if anyone wishes to dispute my claim I will upload what I have collected to substantiate my claim.
The IDF tank I am refering to is covered in Tank Gazette Volume 9 page 12.
Hope this helps. Although ref photo are limited there are some out ther.

Dear Todd,

The T55S , called Samovar (the reason for the S), was never in use, and never crossed the stage of being a prototype.
In a matter of fact, there were two Samovar Tiran 5, one served as a test bed for the hull with the 8V71 GM engine, while the other was the test bed for the new turret control system (TCS) that was based on the M60A1E2 system.
The hull test bed was used latter on as the prototype for the Achzarit HeavyAPC, and its hull is exhibited in the Latrun museum showing its T55S rear cooling grille, compared to the upper grille on the serial production Achzarit APC.

AFAIK, there was no Tiran 6 (T62) used for the Samovar program.

As for the Blazer tiles, they were not adopted from the Magach ones, but specialy designed. There were many Tiran 5 and 6 with the Blazer but they never saw active service.

Hope it helps

Michael Mass
