Hi
I was just researching my Iraqi BMP 1 for the OIF campaign. I came across these Stryker pictures and thought somebody might find them interesting. Especially since the Stryker models start hitting the shelves - at least the Trumpeter version.
I especially like the pirate flag. That would be a nice feature to add to a model. Also note how the Stryker is loaded up with gear and supplies in the overhead photo of the Stryker.
If somebody comes across some pictures of Iraqi BMP-1s from 2003 and forward please share them with me HERE
My apologies if these pictures have already been posted on this site.

wow that is alot of gear. I can see modellers going wild with the equipment on their kits once they start building this.
Silly question here but how does the US military actually use the strykers in terms of their military strategy? Do they support the infantry on the grounds like the M113s' do or are they dealing mostly in recon for example?

Thanks for sharing the pics. There was a recent episdoe of Future Weapons on the Discovery Channel showing these. They tend to work in packs using the variations of the Stryker to support each other, basically as a recon unit. Hoping one of the model companies will produce some of the other Stryker variants...especially the one with the tank turret mounted, that one looked wicked!

It depends on the operations they are in. they are used in everything from raids (great b/c they are quiet and fast), patrols, to direct action operations. They work effectively in battalion operations all the way down to platoon and section level. The AT Stryker - lacking tanks to defeat - has been in the infantry support role doing what the MGS will do. MGS hasn't deployed yet, but it'll provide support for the infantry. The engineer vehicle is being used to clear roads and IEDs. Basically, by nature of the SBCT, all the current vehicles are supporting infantry operations.

Got a few pics of the Stryker in Iraq over on my site.
http://www.ipmsslc.com/gallery2/v/References/OurManinIraq/stryker/
They are mixed with some Humvee pics which I need to move out of there (when I can find some time).
Friend of mine at work has a son who is part of the Stryker Brigade. They love the vehicle.

Depends. For the most part, in the Infantry BNs, yes. The Stryker is just the latest battle taxi, which if used right is also a platform to provide support by fire.
What Jeff said regarding ATGMs and ESVs is correct.
There is a 4th Maneuver BN in a Stryker BDE. The RSTA Squadron. Due to the way the RSTA is manned, there is far fewer dismounts than in the Infantry units. Instead of 6 or 7 guys popping out the back, the Recce vehicles get 3 (4 on a Platoon Leader's RV)
So, the RSTA has to fight a little different than the Infantry. In reality the RSTA shouldn't be fighting at all, although Stryker Brigades have used the RSTA as an Adhoc infantry unit, the 97E HUMINT collectors get squashed together to make tactical humint teams, and all the scouts get squashed together, and kick in doors. It is just a technique.

in the first two pictures (pirate flag) are from Tal Afar Iraq 2004-2005. they are 1st Platoon, B Trp, 2-14 Cav RSTA from 1/25 IN. the MEV in a ditch that brings back memories, IIRC everyone was casevac out of there. the 1SG in the mev had some serious internal bleeding, and is back in country right now.

2-14? I have a bunch of stuff from them, CALL, TACSOP etc. Our TACSOP is a blatant rip off of theirs...if it ain't broke...

Some interesting observations on the first and second pictures and also some notes.....
1) Interesting to see a gun sheild on the .50 cal. I dont recall seeing this before. I would tend to think it would make the smoke poppers somewhat unusable if not unusable at all. But perhaps they arent necessary or as necessary as the gun sheild to protect the commander.
2) Im noticing spare tires on the top of these. I know the Trumpeter kit doesnt come with a spare. Anyone need one for their build? I should have my stryker next week, and I'll have to make a mold and a copy for the spare.
3) Archer just came out with those Pirate flags if anyone is interested.

Hi Gary, this is not an ICV, it is the RV. The RV has a gun shield for the .50 cal. It does not have an RWS like the ICV and some of the other versions. I don't know the date of the photo, but more recent RVs have the TC position with 360 protection. The LRAS seems to be missing on this particular truck.
The smoke dischargers are not located on the weapon mount. They are relocated to the front of the hull and to the sides of the roof.

Thanks for the info Robert. Up until recently, there was no model of this vehicle, so I never really researched it, and therefor, dont know too much about the Strykers. Up until recently, the only time I have ever seen them was on "Mail Call" on the history channel once before.
