Does anyone know of an appropriate camo for an M10 in U.S. service? I thought of black or light brown stripes like what you see on shermies.
I'm getting really bored with O.D. green and want something different.
Thanks, Hellbent

The black stripes or bands over the OD would look great. If you use Tamiya acrylics the NATO Black compliments OD very well.

Black stripes were definitely used by the 794th TD battalion in Italy using M10's so you're good there. And in NWE during the winter of '44-'45 lots of vehicles of all types got winter whitewash.

Excellent! Thanks guys.
John, you are absolutely right about the NATO black. It does work very well and to my eyes it has a bit of gray in it that makes it look somewhat faded when applied on a surface.
Greg, thanks. I'll have to do some searching for the 794th so I can get the makrkings right. Do you know any links to pages that feature them?

A similar question... would such a scheme (black on OD) be probable on an M36 as well? (And, follow up, for Spring -45?)
Sorry if this would be hijacking a thread, but to me these questions seem to be about teh same thing...

Sorry, Hellbent, no links...I'm rather a Luddite with computer stuff. Prefer print, myself. And to answer your question directly, the print sources that will help are these:
Concord's US Tank Destroyers in WW2
Osprey's M10 and M36 tank destroyers in WW2
Opsrey's M18 Hellcat 1944-94
Squadron's Tank Destroyers in Action and for detail stuff
Squadron's Tank Destroyer Walk-Around
Also Lonnie Gill's Tank Destroyer Forces in WW2 is interesting, basically a TD forces reunion and reminiscence book.

Thanks Greg! I appreciate all the help!
Andy, I think you are right. It could just as easily work for one or the other.

Andy, per your question as to the M36: Yeah, it's possible. The black stripe thing was widely encouraged in the ETO, it seems. Camouflage seems to become more prevalent as the war dragged on, so for spring of '45 the odds ar pretty good that soembody was using it.

Hellbent,
I also use the NATO black for tires sometimes if I can airbrush them. The gray hint looks more like rubber than a straight flat black.
