Well, my copy arrived today.
Does that now make me a Sherman Expert? :-)
Anyway, I'm personally happy I sprung for the book.

I'm still waiting for my copy - so far I only received an invoice
What is the re-print quality? Text, photos?
I find it interesting that on the cover is still a Presidio Press logo, but there is no information whatsoever about this re-release on Random House / Presidio website. Is this re-print actually legal?...

I pre-ordered from Great Models, and it ran about 127.00 with shipping Chad.
Pawel, it clearly states on the copyright page that it is a "SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION of 1,000 COPIES PUBLISHED BY:
Historical Archive Press, with their business information. It also appears on the spine of the dust cover and book, so I would assume that it is legal.
As for quality, well I haven't read it yet. :-) But in my copy the text is fine and clear. Since I do not have an original copy to compare it to, I can't say it's better or worse. Comparing it to my Hunnicutt Half-Track book I'd say about the only difference is the type of paper used. My Half-track is printed on a glossy stock, and the Sherman is printed on a semi-glossy stock. I personally find it easier to read and look at flat or semi-glossy paper than glossy. Might be an old age thing though.
As for the photos, again, not having an original to compare it to, I used the Half-track and my copy of "British and American Tanks of World War Two" by Chamberlain and Ellis, and find the photos comparable and of equal or better quality. Of course all are not perfect, and this I just contribute to the condition of the original print or negative used, but on a fast glance through it, only one or two caught my eye.

Thanks for the info, Grumpy!
I was a little worried about the quality, as some poeple suggested that this re-print would be made from scanned old book. Good to hear that it looks fine!

One other thing, comparing the paper weight, I'd say it's the same weight used as the original. I personally think it was well worth the money, and I'll make sure after my demise, my executor passes it on to another Allied Builder. :-)

No, you have to thumb through it first, buy and build one of the DML kits and take some photos of an old display Sherman somewhere.Well, my copy arrived today.
Does that now make me a Sherman Expert? :-)
Anyway, I'm personally happy I sprung for the book.
Then you will be an expert.

I think he needs to build a few Shermans with all its warts, post pictures, get reamed by the rivet counters, go back to Hunnicutt, build some more Shermans with corrections found in Hunnicutt....
... then you are an expert

So at one time, 25 years or so ago, I owned a copy, when nobody knew what they'd be worth some day, and I own most all of the DML kits, and am currently working on the Opp Cobra one, and there is a Jumbo over at Carson I keep meaning to go over and take pictures of? I can qualify as a Sherman Expert? Is there some kind of lapel pin that comes with that?

Howdy Grumpy
Pard', I gotta tell ya....I'm a bit jealous. Wish I could afford one right now, but I guess it'll have to wait. Mighty glad the reprint is shaping up to be well worth the investment tho'......
Congrats Dave, and everyone else who is getting a copy.
