Jagdpanther II 128 mm PaK80 or E-50 Panzerjaeger

Something a little different. A protoype for a Paper Panzer. This is FCM's resin conversion for the Tamiya Panther "G"

It's a fairly clean resin conversion that fits right on the Panther "G" under carriage and lower hull. There was some trimming and filling involved to get the fit. The directions were not very involved

A little bit of a fit problem in the back

I added Eduard PE for detail. The hull comes with the standard knotches to accomidate the tool locations for the "G". No skirts at this time

With skirts

And Pre-shaded before final coat of paint

Not quite sure what direction I will head for final coat of paint.

Hello !
Very interesting kit ! I am fascinated by the " what if " German Arnor . I would paint it using the red oxide primer as a base coat , with some cam or perhaps dark green , with some cam. Or perhaps the so called " Octopus " cam scheme on some very late war King Tigers .
I have the older Dragon Flak Panzer IV , " Kugel Blitz " , and the old Dragon Panther " F " , I am looking at switching the turrets . One of my later projects will be older Dragon Panther " G " , with a Italeri Puma Turret , I seen a drawing of this in the Spielberger book on the Panther Just some " what if " Armor using older kits . These are ideas that I have gotten from my numerous books , and stuff that I found on the internet . Rather than junk these kits , or sell them at a yard sale , I am doing something " completely different " . LOL .
How ever one conversion that I am working on , is the Panther " D " , with a Panzer IV Turret , this vehicle actually existed . I will be using Italeri kits , for this one . This is a hard one to get information on .
So keep us posted , and Happy Modelling !
Frank

" PERSEVERANCE "

P.S. The thing I like about the " what if " , " paper project ", "never left the drawing board "Armor , it gives the modeller alot of choices in finishing his kit . What if World War 2 carried on for a few more years , or it started later .

Thanks for sharing the pics of this kit! I've always wanted one of these but was a little concerned about what it looked like.

At least here's an armor piece that can be finished almost anyway and free from comments of those rivet counters! :-)

That's where the armor plates are welded together.

Thanks for looking, guys.

Thanks, William, Frank, Darren, Giacomo, Jeff and Major Rob I appreciate the comments

Frank, believe it or not, I know exactly what you are talking about. I did a chop of a couple armor kits from the shelf. Actually an ESCI T-55. I posted it here but it was switched it to sci-fi. Scott saw fit to make it a feature over there in the other section

http://modelgeek.kitmaker.net//features/1375

Darren - If you aren't talking about the plate welds, there was some recessed gouges in that front plate. There was some great uneven textue/shape to the hull along with some gouges in the front plate. I did fill some of the gouges with putty but I thought leaving some might be realistic. I think it is more evident because of the closeness of the picture and the gloss of the paint. With the next coats of paint I don't think the will be as noticeable

Jeff - yeah the sky's the limit. Definitely - no real guidelines. I chose to put the same tools and locations on what were typical for a Panther "G" but you could do what ever you want. That's why I'm wondering about paint color ?

Gasoline makes the same kit in 1/48

Thank you that does answer my question, I was interested to find out if it was a weakness in moulding or something you had done to age the vehicle. That said you have done a very good job of getting it altogether, I like the cleanup you have done of the rear end as that looks like a lot of filler was needed. I would like to thank you for posting this up as paper panzers really fire my imagination and the biggest beauty of them is no one can say that’s wrong.

Beautiful, I really love the model.

I've been considering buying that conversion for a while, but it's a tad expensive, I did build their 88mm Krupp Jagdpanzer based on Pz IV chassis.

I think the masters for those kits (and maybe the mouldings) are made by Matthias Roth of MR Modell in Germany.

Back to the model, the only thing I would have done differently is maybe put the exhausts a bit more inwards on the rear plate?

About the paint scheme how about a geometric dark yellow and green or dark yellow and brown, seen on some Panthers very late in the war?

Cheers,
Christophe

On the other hand, the engine is up front, so it's logical the exhausts pipes would go on the sides of the fighting compartment and thus be positioned outwards at the back....

Christophe,

I think there would still have to be some issues resolves relative towards that anyway as far as engine location, drive wheels, and all that

I like your idea for the cammo, after all they did "cammo up" the maus prototype.

thanks for your comments

WOW, to change engines or transmissions would be a nightmare. You would have to pull the main gun first! That style offset for the commanders position was found to have problems on the Tiger II and it was redesigned. This one probably would be worse. I think whatever the last model panther had for exaust would also be incorporated on this version also. Another thought, turn the exaust horizontal and mount it on the side of the vehicle at the rear of the engine compartment. Mount a cover over it to hide the glow if hot. Greg.

Which is just what happened with the Elefant/Ferdinand vehicles....

LawrenceFo, It's from a manufacturer called FCM. I got mine from Accurate Armour

http://www.accurate-armour.com

Thanks, Thomas I appreciate you checking it out

Since you guys brought it up - I have a little update

- added some cammo - a vinelike pattern - I lost alot of my pre-shade from multiple attempts at the cammo ( I think it's all set now )
- no weathering or detail paint yet

Very unusual and eye catching model. I really like these "what if" models. You have done a really good job on this one.

In the last pictures you have sprayed over the front of the hull and the superstructure again. Why did you do that? I think the camo looked very good.

Thanks for sharing

Good catch, Jesper, - Thanks - sorry that was a picture taken before the final attempt - I grabbed the wrong image from photobucket - kinda shows my varied attempts to get the cammo right - I'll switch it around

Thanks, Jesper, I appreciate the comments
