I received $2500.00 on Friday. So, I decided I would buy a model kit or two. I purchased the following:
DML "Greif" halftrack
Tamiya T55
DML "Morser Karl"
Hobby Fan vulcan Phalanx CIWS
Then on Sunday, I find out about Hobby Lobby's 50% off sale. We all know that 50% off is to good to pass up. So on Monday I purchased the following from Hobby Lobby:
M113 ACAV
M3 Halftrack
M16 Multi-gun motor carriage
Prior to this shopping spree I already had 62 unbuilt kits waiting to be assembled. I don't know what the hell I was thinking. It was fun though.

So how much do you have left? #:-) Personally, after reading about the Dragon Wagon, I would love to get my hands on it. It is too bad that the closest Hobby Lobby is 5 states away.

They need to come out with a support group for us. Something like Modelers Anonymous. (sp)
I think most everybody on this board could be charter members.

Having just returned from a Hobby Lobby with $100 + in kits (after discount!) I have decided my two most pressing needs are (1.) Time to actually build some stuff, and (2.) Another closet or so to store stuff in while waiting for (1.) to come available. When it gets to point where I can't remember if I have particular kit in the stash when I'm thinking about buying something specific, I'll know its time to seek out an MA chapter.
It's at the point now where I'll surprise myself #:-) when I go to put my more recent purchases away, seeing stuff I forget I had bought previously

How do those lyrics go? "I don't have diddly squat. It's not having what you want. It's wanting what you've got." Crow, Soak up the Sun
Before you stone me, I have the same affliction as everyone else just thought the lyrics were appropriate. Thank goodness there are no Hobby Lobby stores in my area otherwise I'd be there now!

Read my lips "It's not a form of fanaticism, it is a OBSESSION!"
I have over 3000 kits of all types in my basement...from Hobby Lobby, kit sales and as gifts. I usually spend about $100 a month on kits and such, but I also sell some, so it helps keep things even...good thing I am an ok modeler, huh?
I will try to post pics, once I have my basement unpacked, as proof!

I think there are doctors that may be able to help! Maybe TV's Dr. Phil could yell at you! #:-)
Seriously, what precent of those do you plan (or have time) to build?
I have about 100 kits (not counting all the pricey aftermarket stuff) and am thinking about a big sale to get rid of about 25. I refuse to buy new kits as my interests change because I feel I have more than I will ever get to now. That's why I need to downsize.
If there were a Hobby Lobby around me, I'd probably spend $100 or more too though... Can't pass up a sale like that.

Only 62? You're just getting started!
For my birthday a couple of weeks ago, I treated myself to some Tiger Model Design goodies. Then went to the hobby shop to pick up Tamiya's Marder111 M, and since they had the new DML early Hornisse on sale, I just had to take that home too.
Welcome to the club and enjoy!

Forgot to mention: If you are really on a spree, the one thing you should really look into is not a model, but ...

Wow! I thought I had it bad! I'm working on one of the older Tamiya Jumbo kits and also one of their older Chevy desert trucks. Plus I have the new Nashorn and the Ausf. D and Ausf. A (late) Panthers from Dragon in boxes out in the garage. Plus one of Acadamy's Tigers with interior that is about half finished as well. And I just picked up the Tamiya Famo this past week end.
The new Dragon Hummel and Nashorn (late) is due out this year, I think, plus the Karl mortar, and I'm also thinking about Tamiya's T-55 as well.....Does it end? Oh, and don't forget about the rumor of Dragon's K 5 (E) railway gun.
And this hasn't even tapped into the research material either/
I tend to look on this hobby as a combining of two other hobbys I use to indulge in to some extent in my younger days. Muscle cars and guns. And both of those hobbies are a lot more expsenive to do now than the models, so I'll stick with the plastic, resin, PE, face mask and paint fumes and hope for a long life.
An AA for modelers sounds good, but who whats to join? Not me!
Take care, sgrity :-) #:-)

Seriously, I plan to build about 80% of these kits...not all competition quality, but built. I have quite a few aircraft kits that I may get rid of in the future...I mean, how many 1/72 SU-24's can a guy build? Got those from a Marco Polo Box Top Madness sale.
anyhow, I have about 30 kits in progress right now,and 1 comission, the FAMO W/Trailer. My biggest holdback is my son, who was born sick but is pretty much ok. He will be trying normal food soon and if that all goes ok, then it will be less time going to the docs and more time in the basement building and painting.
What am I working on? T-72Bm (Kirin T-90 conversion), many SP Design conversions for the BTR-80, M4A3E2 Jumbo, Mi-24E in 1/48 with allthe bells and whistles, TU-22M with some corrections, Tamiya T-55 OOB, and a bunch of resin figures that I am able to crank out pretty well if I have the time. My website is in my profile if you want to take a peek.

You know what I love about Brent (SgtSauer), the more he spends, the more I buy off him cheap. Brent is my favorite model collector. He doesn't actually build models, he just buys them. I am kidding of course, because I have seen a little of his work,it's pretty good, and it's not his fault he hasn't done a lot. His mom just passed awayand he had to take care of her estate, then he had to get his unit ready for deployment. What with driving an hour to work each way, his time is shot. Both of those are done now, so now he just needs to find a job closer to home. He's a great guy, though, he really extended the hand of friendship to me when I started to go to IPMS and didn't know anyone. He also gave me an armload of stuff for the Abrams I am doing.

And my family gives me a hard time about my mere dozen unbuilt kits - well, maybe they count the unbuilt sci-fi stuff, but really, that's only another two dozen or so.
It looks like I'm way behind on my buying! I do have an order pending at Great Models, so that makes up for it a little bit

oh one more thing, not to rub it in, (ok it is to rub it in, but with this many kits, I might as well get into the pissing contest big-time...only good thing to do with that many kits)
those 3000+ kits are not including all the PE and Resin Conversions I have...ANd I think that is where most people get caught up. I bought MANY of the plastic kits before I started into the hell known as superdetailing. Now the expensive resin (that damned PSP MAZ-543 is really going to HURT my wallet) and PE take a bigger bite than just straight plastic.
But I have my DANA SPG, my MT-55, and my ZSU-23-4. oh, and a zoopark-1 as well. God I love the russkie stuff, so I am good...happy in my corner talking to the paint chips, don;t mind me... HA HA.
(See what NOT using a mask when cuting up resin does to you?)

oh, and on the aside so I don't sound like a TOTAL dork, if anyone has a question about a kit, I may be able to help outon the kit in specific, like if it is a good buy, etc. Just drop a line or ask a Q, I will try to help put this mountian of plastic goodness to work...if I can find anything in all the boxes.

To me you guys are lucky to have that many unbuilt kits. Is hobby Lobby still having there sale I have a very very limited budget ( 6.00 a week ) so if i buy something it gets started as soon as i get it home.
