Could the LVT carrying a jeep? I test fitted my Tamiya Willy's jeep in the hull of my Italeri LVT-4 and I wasn't sure. It looked like it could fit but it would be crowded.

The old Airfix LVT came with a Jeep inside, but as far as accuracy, I guess it could be done and probably was done.

I've never seen or heard of it being done BUT it doesn't mean it didn't happen. Maybe after the initial invasion one was brought ashore that way? In the chaos that was an invasion certainly anything was possible.

OOOHH! Maybe a General's jeep would be "special" enough to get a ride in an LVT!

Search the IWM photo database for Photo No.: BU 2058, Collection No. 4700-30. The photo shows a Jeep driving off a British LVT-4 after being carried across the Rhine.

From copies of official docs regarding re-equiping regiments of 33rd Armoured Brigade has a page concerning loads for LVT IV's

Qoute from para 3:-

The LVT IV has a door which can be lowered like an LCA and can take the following vehicles and NO OTHERS:-
Jeep, Weasel, Dingo, A/B Bulldozer, Carrier also a 6 pdr gun.
It CANNOT take a Windsor Anti-Tank tower. Carriers can only be taken with a reasonable load.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Kevin

Hi Austin,

Here's a post I did some time back setting out the spec of what could and could not be carried by LVTs during the rhine crossing.

Hope this will help clarify your question
