I am in the process of collecting the components and research material to build an early version of the M18 Hellcat tank destroyer. I am building it as a gift to a member of my church who is a veteran of the 704th Tank Destroyer Battalion.
I purchased the AFV M18 kit. This kit has the later barrel with the muzzle brake (the M1A2 gun). My friend's vehicle had the M1A1 gun without the muzzle brake. I purchased a Model Point barrel that was made for the Academy M18 kit. I thought it would be OK to use it on the AFV kit.
However, when I compared the AFV kit barrel to the Model Point barrel, the Model Point barrel seems, well, puny.
My question is whether the Model Point barrel is an accurate representation of the M1A1 gun (in 1/35 scale) or is there a better choice out there?
Thanks for the help.
