Howdy all!

I was just wondering if the Marines used any Sand colored LAV 25's in OIF? I'm sure they did, I just haven't seen any pics.

Thanks

Hey Randy,
Here are a few that I was able to find, not many. Maybe the experts who know that they are out should have pointed you in the right direction…or maybe even help some Not sure what your looking for but I did a quick Google.com search and found many LAV's in camo and some sand. Even try like WebShots and Photobucket. They also have many pics from Soliders from OIF and Afghanistan.

You must not be that busy then, if you found the time to respond TWICE in this thread.

man give the guy a break. I thought this site was to help people not insult them. Maybe he had trouble finding them, some people know where to look... It is not Randy's Fault. If i knew where some where i would give him links, not Respond in that way. BTW, did you check prime portal by chance Randy?

I was looking at it not knowing what made it different besides the exhaust, and that's it!!
As a side note I thought that the Legends Stowage kit was excessive but it seems that they carry everything outside. Maybe I give it a second thought

Here's a few more Randy. It was no trouble at all to find these for you and now they're in my image stash too.... funny how in helping others we also manage to help ourselves in the process.....

I'd be interested in seeing your model because I too was thinking of building a sand coloured USMC LAV-25 from the Trumpeter kit. I find the two-toned ones interesting....

These two are actually from Desert Storm in 1991.

Yes they are out there and were used in 2003 and 2001, but most Marine LAVS are painted in the NATO 3 color scheme.

Thanks for most people's helpful input! I was planning on using the Trumpeter kit with some aftermarket LAV Stowage set as well.

Thanks again!

There's not a whole lot of room inside, so you'll find everything on the outside! Most vehicles end up looking like a gypsy caravan...

I too thought this board would be one of the first places to go with these types of questions due to the helpful (generally....) nature of the participants as well as the vast amounts of knowledge gathered here.

For the benefit of the so called 'unhelpful helpfuls' then, how about identifying the one picture that is from OIF, or is that against the 'do your own research' ethic?

I think y'all need to lighten up a bit. No need to get your shorts all in a twist just because a colleague has less experience in web surfing that some others.

We all need help from time-to-time.

p.s. If it matters, and I don't think it does here, I am the real deal. I earned my Combat Action Ribbon in Vietnam in 1969.

Here's another one from the Dodmedia website :

Here's the original caption : "US Marine Corps (USMC) personnel from the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (Wolf Pack), Camp Pendleton, California, screen the enemy, from a Light Armored Vehicle-25 (LAV-25) at the intersection of Highway 1 and 27 in Iraq during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM"

how about identifying the one picture that is from OIF

It's the one pictured in Antonio's post . Here's the original caption (from dodmedia website) : " U.S. Marine Cpls. Joshua Sanchez, left, and Jared Broderick take a break outside of their light armored vehicle parked on a hill overlooking the city of Hit, Iraq, on Dec. 5, 2005. Sanchez and Broderick are scouts with 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable)."
..... Do I win something

BTW this one :

shows a LAV from OEF in Kuwait. Here's the original Dodmedia caption : " A Light Armored Vehicle-25 (LAV-25) with the M242 25mm chain gun in the turret, 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance, Camp Pendleton, California, rolls across the Kuwaiti desert at Camp Ripper, Kuwait during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM."

The below images are from OIF.

You can tell by the SLEP exhaust upgrade in the first 2 pics. The 1st one looks as though it may be in NATO 3-color camo covered in dust though.

Edit: that pic sucks, here is the url to it: LAV pic

This one is also OIF. You can tell by the Coyote Brown IBA on the TC and the split mount on the M240D.

The rest that have been shown are not in OIF or OIF time frame. They look to be in ODS ('90-'91) or in training events from that time frame.

Guess Frenchy and I were both posting at the same time. Between the two, you should have enough to go by.

Cmon everyone, lets just be cool about this.

I think we all have opinions and we all want to make our points.

Lets put this baby to rest. The fact of thr matter is that there were desert painted LAVS in both the first Gulf War in 1991, Afghanistan in 2001, and in OIF in 2003.

Don't be angry at each other!! Save that for the spouses who nag us to get "other" things done around the house!!

Not to beat a dead horse here but Randy asked a question and Gary gave him an answer, I don't see Gary's answer as negative or slamming he stated a fact which was the correct answer for the question. Randy asked if there WERE sand LAVs in OIF, and added that he couldn't find any pics. Gary could have given him a one word answer ("yes") I guess but hey you ask a question sometimes you don't care for the answer. Some people in the past have just linked google with the keywords so I really don't see anything wrong with the answer Randy got. Would some of us have answered him differently? You bet but that doesn't matter.

On another note I know Gary personally since I moved to KC and became involved in the AMPS group here. I have found him to bend over backwards to help me with any projects I am working on so take posted text for what it is .. posted text and don't try and assume an attitude from it. Typed communications are very misleading about the nature of the person posting them 99% of the time and they can come across in a very negative manner. I never post anything I am not prepared to ignore a reply or two on because there will always be a post that rubs you the wrong way. The thread generated some help which is what Randy was after so it worked out.

One of the problems of just 'Googling' sometimes. Looks like 2 demo vehicles, and some sort of training/exercize scheme. Although interesting, they do not represent OIF vehicles. The USMC site has a good photo gallery to check out:
