The versions used were M109A3 and M109A5, which both look externally the same. They were painted in overall sand and would have a variety of markings based on what unit they belonged to. At a minimum, they should have unit bumper numbers and coalition chevrons on the sides.

Here is an M109A3/A5 in ODS.

There are also a few pics in Concord's "Blitzkrieg in the Gulf" book...

Thanks Folks so I see the markings and all.

Pics saved BTW and I guess Archer would be the place for Chevrons and Markings??

Using the Italeri M-109 so it is an A6 any back dating hints or leave it alone?

Skybow tracks ;-)

IMHO, you'd better try to find an older OOP Italeri M109 , like kit #246 (eBay maybe...) as the A6 Paladin has a completely different turret and gun.....But the tracks from Skybow would be OK

EDIT : just came across another ODS M109 picture (from www.3ad.org):

Yes, M109A6 Paladins have been used during OIF.

Have a look at Primeportal for pics :

Yup, Frenchy is right. The M109A6 Paladin was not fielded till after ODS, in the mid '90s. The Paladin turret is totally different than an A3/A5 as well. Backdating it is almost impossible.

The Paladin has/is being used in Iraq. It is the main artillery piece in all heavy divisions. There have been both sand and camo ones in Iraq. Check out Prime Portal for some pics of 4ID Paladins in Iraq. Click on the Battlefield and then Armored Vehicles. Scroll down to the M109A6 Paladin pics.

Guys,

May I know what is the bumper number for the 3rd Armored Division M109s during the gulf war as shown on Frenchy first photo post on top.

All the photos are only showing the side view with chevron marking.

Thanks

3 AD DIVARTY had 3 DS (Direct Support) M109A2/A3 155mm SP, FA Bns assigned to the division during ODS. They were: 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery; 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery; and 4th Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery.

Bumper numbers would be something like the following:

Left Side (front and rear when looking at the vehicle) is the Div and Bn:

3^ 2-3 F
3^ 2-82 F
3^ 4-82 F

The ^ is a solid triangle for Armor

The right side (front and rear when looking at the vehicle) is the Battery and vehicle #. Howitzers are usually vehicle #s 11-14 (1 PLT), and 21-24 (2 PLT).

A 11, A 12, B 13, B 23, B 24, etc...
