Try piano wire or fiber-optic line.

Guitar strings (hi E string) is effective. Used to use the pulled sprue method. Don't use it as much. Not as exact as a guitar string.

Honestly?
Alright, I use the used wire in Randy's Rolling Paper.
You asked.

I melt and stretch sprue pieces. Old School.

I tried lots of different things then discovered about guitar strings here. Used them and they are fantastic!

Guitar strings are great--that's what I use after reading about it here. Make sure you have a good wire cutter for hard metals though--do not use your sprue cutter or any other tool for soft metal, as you could damage it.
The one thing I have trouble with is painting the strings. It's hard to get an even coating on them with some consistency. Anyone have any neat tricks to help with this?

We have a guy in our model club that uses paint brush bristles from a large, inexpensive brush for applying house paint. They are stiff enough to remain upright, but have a lot of give if you touch it. i.e. won't break off or break your model.

I do, on occasion that it's a small radio or field radio, use a cat or dog whisker. I have both and a couple of light tugs will reveal a loose one without hurting the animal. I have found a few laying around the house too, but never when I needed one.

20thou florist wire works just fine for me. $2 will get you enough to fit out the average armoured division and still have some left over :-)

Adler's Nest makes nice german antennas. They are tappered and come in two sizes (1.4 and 2 meter) for panzerjagers and tanks. They will hit your wallet compared to guitar string.

On my models I use two items, the guitar string method and for show pieces I use Minimeca's antennas.

It may sounds weird, but the nylon hair that can be found on this kind of hand brush are worth a look too :
Just check for the right gauge (and you got a FREE shovel )

I like using the guitar strings, but I never can keep the tank in tune when the weather is damp :-)
