I may be taking the database server offline in a bit to do some repair work on the forum tables. It shouldn't be down too long.

Whoo Hoo! I finally fixed the corrupted tables in the database and was able to successfully create a full backup file (that is now on my pc). Hadn't been able to do that in about 8 months.

What a relief.

For those that find all this techie stuff interesting....

Our database file (just a bunch of text really) is now 48mb in size. That's about 10 times larger than most Web sites in their entirety. The base install for this site for example was only 1mb. And that included all the files and graphics that went with it.

Cheers,
Jim

DMD,
You'll have to give me a bit more info. Replies you made tonight/today? If so yes that may have happened as I was shutting down the database during the maintenance I mentioned and it's possible that posts were not getting updated to the database during a minute or two window.

Which medal are you talking about also? I don't see that you have any medals so I am confused.

....Ahh...okay I think I know what happened. John made his post at around the same time as you and somehow his replaced yours but got associated to the wrong topic. As I said above it's a side-effect of me stopping and starting the database.

Just to calm any fears. We had roughly 85,000 posts before I did the maintenance and that number -1 corrupt post after. So we shouldn't have lost anything prior to this time.

Cheers,
Jim

Ok Jim - I'm curious.
I use PostgreSQL at work and have seen a lot of information about MySQL. What do you think about it? How much do you get into the nuts and bolts stuff?
Personally I really really disslike the version of PostgreSQL I am stuck using (no inner joins ).
